Diyarbakırspor is a football club from the southeast Turkish city of Diyarbakır founded in 1968 . The games will be played in the 33,000-seat Diyarbakır Stadyumu . The club played a total of eleven seasons in the Süper Lig in the 1970s, 1980s and 2000s . In the all-time table of the Süper Lig , the club is in 35th place. The greatest successes in the club's history are the 5th place in the table during the Super Lig season 1978/79 and reaching the semi-finals in the Turkish Football Cup in the cup season 1981/82 .

history

Diyarbakırspor was founded in 1968 as a merger of the two teams Diclespor and Yıldızspor in Diyarbakır .

Free fall (2009-2013)

After Diyarbakırspor was promoted back to the Süper Lig in the summer of 2009 by the runner-up in the TFF 1st Lig after three years of abstinence , the club hit the headlines due to constant fanfare. The club got off to a good start in the 2009/10 season , but quickly slipped into the relegation ranks. Despite several coach changes, the club rose as table-16. back to the 1st Lig. Here the club got more and more financial bottlenecks and could not pay many players' salaries. A large part of the squad left the club, released by a contractual clause. Diyarbakırspor tried to compensate for the departure of many professionals by players from the reserve and youth team. Nevertheless, the club quickly got into the relegation zone and was already known as the first relegated several weeks before the end of the season. In 2011/12 the club started in the third highest Turkish league, the TFF 2nd Lig . Here Diyarbakırspor established itself with its modest squad over long distances in the middle of the table. It was only through disappointing defeats in the last days of the season that the club slipped to the 14th and last non-relegation place in the table. By an away defeat against Bugsaş Spor and a victory of the direct competitor Tokatspor against Ofspor , the club slipped into the top relegation place on the last day of the game and was relegated to the TFF 3rd Lig .

About two weeks before the start of the third league season it was announced that the club was in very big financial difficulties. With 20,000,000 TL in debt, the club is on the verge of bankruptcy and may not participate in the upcoming season's game. The bankruptcy could be averted at the start of the season. Thus, Diyarbakırspor took part in the TFF 3rd Lig 2012/13 season with a very modest squad and, as expected, was immediately bottom of the table. The club struggled to cover travel expenses for the away games throughout the season. So you could not travel to an away game against Maltepespor . After the arrival and thus also the away game against Kocaelispor on the 27th matchday could not be started, they had to relegate to the Boelgesel Amatoer Ligi (German regional amateur league ). Regulations came into force, according to which teams that did not play two games within a season for no reason had to be automatically relegated.

Planned dissolution of the association and merger with Yeni Diyarbakırspor

At the end of September 2013, the board of Diyarbakırspors announced that the club would dissolve after 45 years of existence during the 2013/14 season. All players and employees were released by mutual agreement and the sports facilities were handed over to the city administration. Most of the players and club officials hired from their city neighbor Yeni Diyarbakırspor . Since the Turkish Football Association refused to merge the heavily indebted Diyarbakırspor with Yeni Diyarbakırspor, those responsible intend such a club merger.

Club crest

The club emblem combines the city's citadel with the local St. Mary's Church and ends in half a watermelon . Diyarbakir Province is famous for these fruits and the Watermelon Festival is the biggest festival on the city's calendar.
