İlyas Kahraman (born May 31, 1976 in Istanbul ) is a Turkish football coach and former player.

Career

society

Kahraman was born in Istanbul as the son of emigrants from the Turkish Black Sea Province of Trabzon . At the age of twelve he took part in a youth test training in Galatasaray Istanbul and was then accepted by the club. Here he was already noticed by Karl-Heinz Feldkamp in the 1993/94 season , who then let Kahraman take part in the professional training sessions. In the second half of the 1994/95 season, Kahraman was then accepted into the professional squad by head coach Reinhard Saftig and played in two league games by the end of the season. He then received a professional contract and was henceforth an integral part of the team. Under the new coach Graeme Souness Kahraman established himself within the team and came in most games to use. He was particularly noticeable in the second leg of the cup final against arch-rivals Fenerbahçe Istanbul . In the Turkish Football Cup 1995/96 , the final of which later became one of the most famous games of the Intercontinental Derby due to the events after the game , he succeeded in preparing for the 1-1 equalizer, which the Welsh striker Dean Saunders scored. Since Galatasaray could already win the first leg 1-0, they became cup winners. When he was 20 years old, Kahraman received great praise.

For the next season, the Turkish national coach Fatih Terim was introduced as the new head coach at Galatasaray. Under this coach, Kahraman got fewer appearances, but became one of the main players in one of the most legendary games in Turkish football history. In the cup match between Gençlerbirligi Ankara and Galatasaray Istanbul , the regular playing time ended 1: 1. After the result did not change in extra time, the match was decided by penalty shoot-out . This penalty shootout developed into one of the longest in football history. For a long time, they managed to hit all the penalty takers and neither of the two goalkeepers, Kubilay Aydın from Gençlerbirligi and Hayrettin Demirbaş from Galatasaray, saved a penalty. So the penalty shootout developed to a 16:16. Then Kahraman took the 17th penalty kick for his team and missed. After Osman Coşkun subsequently converted for Gençlerbirligi, Galatasaray was eliminated. As a result, Kahraman, along with the two goalkeepers, was rated as one of the three big losers by the trade press. At the end of the season, Kahraman and his team were Turkish champions and Turkish Supercup winners.

For the 1997/98 season Kahraman moved together with his teammate Alp Küçükvardar to league rivals Gaziantepspor . Here he immediately established himself in the main lineup. His team fought against relegation at the end of the season and was finally able to avert it. In the next season he enjoyed the confidence of the new head coach Hüseyin Kalpar and played in almost all league games. His team finished the season in 7th place in the table. In the 1999/2000 season Kalpar left Gaziantepspor after two matchdays and was replaced by Sakıp Özberk . Under this new coach, Kahraman lost his regular place, but completed 14 league games by the end of the season. His team finished the season third, achieved the best placement in the club's history and qualified for the UEFA Cup. In the new season Erdoğan Arıca took over the coaching position at Gaziantepspor. Under this coach, Kahraman only came to sporadic missions and was put on the sales list by him.

So in November 2000 Kahraman moved within the league to promoted Yimpaş Yozgatspor and worked here again with his old coach Hüseyin Kalpar . The season ended in 7th place in the table and thus achieved the best placement in the club's history. Kahraman completed all of his team's games. The next season, he had a positive drug test in October and was banned for six months. After Kalpar had left Yozgatspor, Kahraman switched to league rivals Denizlispor for the winter break . The change to this club came about because his former coach Sakıp Özberk worked there, but this three game days after Kahraman's commitment by Rıza Çalımbay was replaced. But Kahraman also enjoyed the support of this coach and had a regular place. With Denizlispor Kahraman finished the 2001/02 season in 5th place in the table and thus qualified for the UEFA Cup of the 2002/03 season . Here they prevailed in the first round against the French representative FC Lorient . In the next few rounds they surprisingly defeated Sparta Prague and Olympique Lyon and met the eventual UEFA Cup winner FC Porto in the round of 16 . They lost the first leg in Porto with 1: 6 against the Portuguese, who were looked after by the then rather unknown José Mourinho . In the second leg in front of a home crowd they achieved a remarkable 2-2, but were eliminated. Kahraman played in all eight games of the UEFA Cup season and thus had a share in his club's round of 16 participation, which was also the best result in the club's history. In the league they missed a renewed participation in the European competition with the 10th place in the table. A few days before the end of the season Çalımbay left Denizlispor and was replaced by Giray Bulak . Under this coach, Kahraman lost his regular place, but still came as a supplementary player to regular appearances.

After Kahraman had spent the first half of 2003/04 at Denizlispor, he moved to the second half of the season to league rivals Malatyaspor . Here he enjoyed the trust of his trainer Mehmet Özdilek from the start and quickly established himself as a top performer. After Malatyaspor started the next season with difficulties, many players left the club for the second half of the season. So Kahraman also moved to the second division Bursaspor . He left this club at the end of the season and hired the first division club Diyarbakirspor . Here he was part of the starting line-up for the entire season, but left the club after missing relegation.

After this farewell, he played a season for Antalyaspor and then moved to İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor . After one and a half seasons for this club, he was hired by the second division Boluspor . With this club he ended the season as third in the table and thus qualified for the playoff of the TFF 1st Lig , in which the third and last climber was determined. After you missed the promotion here, Kahraman moved within the league to Adanaspor . With this club, too, Kahraman finished the season in 3rd place in the table and only missed promotion to the Süper Lig in the playoffs .

In the summer of 2009 he moved to the third division club Eyüpspor and played here for one and a half seasons before ending his active football career in winter 2011.

National team

Kahraman once played for Turkey's U-16 national team during his youth in Galatasaray Istanbul .

Coaching career

Kahraman ended his career at third division Eyüpspor prematurely after he was given the opportunity to look after the club as head coach. After disappointing results, however, he left the club after a few match days. In the summer of 2012 he started to work as a youth coach for the first division club Kasımpaşa Istanbul .
