Trabzon is a province of Turkey on the Black Sea coast . It is also the capital of the province.
The province has 807,903 inhabitants (as of 2019) on an area of 4,685 km². It borders the provinces of Rize , Bayburt , Gümüşhane and Giresun .
İlçe
Trabzon has been a major city (Büyükşehir belediyesi) since 2012. After an administrative reform in 2014, the area of the big city is identical to that of the province, in each of the İlçe (subordinate state administrative districts) there is a municipality with the same name, which covers its entire area and which is assigned to the city municipality. All other communities and all village communities ( Köy ) in the İlçes were dissolved and their area was added to the respective central community of İlçe. Since then, the governor of the province (Vali) has been a pure civil servant, the responsibilities of the previous provincial assembly ( İl meclisi ), which met under his chairmanship, have been transferred to the metropolitan commune .
