Fatih "Sultan" Tekke (born September 9, 1977 in Sürmene in the province of Trabzon ) is a former Turkish football player and today's coach .
Player career
In the club
The beginnings of the professional career
Fatih Tekke began his professional career in 1995. He played his first game in the quarter-final second leg of the Turkish Cup against Gaziantepspor on January 25, 1995 . In mid-September 1995, the 18-year-old Fatih Tekke celebrated his debut in the European Cup in the first round of the Cup Winners' Cup against FK Žalgiris Vilnius . The striker had his first goal for the Trabzonspor senior team as a wild card in the 1995/96 season against Vanspor on matchday 13 , scoring five minutes after being substituted on. Shortly after the start of the 1997/98 season , Fatih Tekke played 45 league games for the Burgundy-Blue up to this point, 29 of which he was substituted on. The striker couldn't get beyond the role of substitute in Trabzon . That's why he was loaned to Altay İzmir for the rest of the season to collect even more match practice. Fatih Tekke played at Altay in 26 competitive appearances, all but one in the starting line-up and scored nine goals. In Izmir , at the age of 20, he managed his first hat trick on November 16, 1997 in the 4-5 defeat against Galatasaray Istanbul . Because of this performance, he made it to his first international match two months later. In addition, Fatih Tekke reached the qualification for the UI Cup with the team .
A broken foot slowed his sporting career, he did not find his way back to his old form in the 1998/99 season and the following season after his return to Trabzonspor .
The way to the top scorer
Fatih Tekke moved to Gaziantepspor for the 2000/01 season . There he managed a flawless hat trick in eight minutes (81st, 84th and 89th minutes) on matchday 17 on December 16, 2000 in the 6-1 win against Erzurumspor , but overall he scored four goals that day. In addition, the striker and the team achieved a strong third place in the league with the Red-Blacks in their first season ahead of Beşiktaş and Trabzonspor , thus qualifying them for the UEFA Cup . Fatih Tekke scored 28 goals in 57 league games for Gaziantepspor.
He returned to Trabzonspor shortly after the start of the 2002/03 season. There Tekke scored more than ten goals in each of the following two seasons. With his goals he helped Trabzonspor to two cup victories in 2003 & 2004 and two runner-up championships in 2004 & 2005 . In the 2004/05 season he was the top scorer in the Süper Lig with 31 goals in 34 league games, in addition he succeeded in three hat tricks this season. Fatih Tekke scored the second-highest number of goals of any UEFA member association in Europe , but only came in sixth on the list of goalscorers for the Golden Shoe (UEFA) because it was rated according to UEFA criteria. For this he was honored in April 2006 in Wiesbaden by the IFFHS as the world's second best first division goalscorer in 2005. Furthermore, in the 2004/05 and 2005/06 seasons, the striker was voted Player of the Season in the Süper Lig.
The move abroad
Fatih Tekke moved to Zenit Saint Petersburg at the end of July 2006 for a transfer fee of 8.75 million euros . This made him the most expensive transfer in the club's history. In his first game as Joker, Tekke scored the important 1-0 winning goal for his new employer. In the next four games, right from the start, the striker scored three more goals, so he had a great debut at Zenit. In the next seasons he won several titles with the team, e.g. B. in May 2008 Tekke won the UEFA Cup with Zenit against Glasgow Rangers . In this final he was in the final minutes, the assist of the 2: 0 final score for Konstantin Zyryanov . After Tekke was about to return to Trabzonspor in January 2010 , the transfer failed due to a lack of agreement between the parties. Later in February 2010, he moved to reigning Russian champions Rubin Kazan , with whom the striker signed a three-year contract that was initially due to begin in August. Zenit and Rubin then agreed on an immediate transfer.
The return to Turkey
His return to Turkey surprisingly took place six months later, shortly before the end of the transfer, Fatih Tekke moved to Beşiktaş Istanbul and signed a two-year contract. The fee for him was 750,000 euros. At the end of October 2010 he had a heated verbal argument with his coach Bernd Schuster after the game. After this argument , the relationship between him and the coach was strained. On January 19, 2011, Beşiktaş JK officially announced that striker Fatih Tekke's contract had been terminated by mutual agreement. He only played three competitive games for the Black Eagles .
After the black and white contract was terminated , Fatih Tekke signed a one and a half year contract with MKE Ankaragücü .
For the 2011/12 season, the striker moved to the promoted Orduspor , with whom he signed a two-year contract.
In the national team
In May 1994 Fatih Tekke won the European U16 Junior Championship with the U16 national team of Turkey . He was used in all six games of the tournament, in addition, the striker scored a goal and another in the quarter-finals on penalties .
Tekke made his international debut for Turkey's senior team in a friendly against Albania on January 21, 1998 . Among other things, he scored Turkey's 500th international goal. In 2004 Fatih Tekke scored three goals for the national team and was on the starting line-up in all seven qualifying matches for Turkey and scored other important goals for Turkey in qualifying for the 2006 World Cup , with Turkey failing in relegation to Switzerland .
For the EM 2008 he was not nominated by the then coach Fatih Terim . The striker played his last international match in a friendly against Georgia on February 7, 2007 . After that Fatih Tekke was nominated twice by the national coach in March and November 2007, but he always had to cancel due to injury. Since then, Fatih Tekke has not been nominated for the national team. Since he performed well and was still not nominated for the qualifying games for the 2010 World Cup , the media then criticized Fatih Terim . Fatih Tekke stated that she had not resigned from the national team and that she was ready to play at any time.
Coaching career
Contrary to his attitude towards the Turkish national coach Fatih Terim , Tekke was moved by him to work as a coach in the Turkish youth national teams . In 2015 he worked as an assistant coach for the Turkish A2 national team, the second Turkish senior national team .
In March 2015, he took over the Turkish first division club Kayseri Erciyesspor, who was threatened with relegation .
After Tekke was introduced as the new trainer of 1461 Trabzon at the beginning of 2016 , this collaboration did not materialize. Instead, he took over as head coach at the second division Boluspor in February 2016 . Since he did not have the necessary coaching license, he was officially run as an assistant coach at Kayseri Erciyesspor, while his assistant coach Hamit Cihan was given as the official head coach of the national football association. In May 2016 he left this club again.
After a one-year break, Tekke signed a contract with the relegation-threatened second division Manisaspor in October 2017 . However, the contract was terminated by mutual consent after three months.
Shortly afterwards, in February 2018, he signed a contract with Denizlispor until the end of the season . By the time Tekke signed the contract, the team had only collected 17 points and was in penultimate place in the table. Tekke collected 21 points in his 13 games with Denizlispor and saved the team from relegation to the third division.
After his contract expired, Tekke signed a five-year contract with İstanbulspor in June 2018 .
