1461 Trabzon is a Turkish football club from Trabzon . The team plays their home games at the Ahmet Suat Özyazıcı Stadı or the Yavuz Selim Stadı . The club is unofficially considered the pilot team of the eight-time champions Trabzonspor and gained greater fame by participating in the Turkish second division.

history

founding

Since the reserve teams in Turkey are not allowed to participate in professional leagues, but only in the league of the reserve teams, the A2 Ligi, some first division clubs have been trying for a number of years to have a side team in one of the lower Turkish leagues. In this sense, the traditional Turkish club Trabzonspor bought the competition rights from the then third division Değirmenderespor in summer 2008 and renamed this club Trabzon Karadenizspor .

The club took part in the competition under this name for about a year. On January 14, 2009 it was decided to rename the club again. The choice of name fell on 1461 Trabzon , the full name being 1461 Trabzon Spor Kulübü . 1461 is supposed to symbolize the year in which Fatih Sultan Mehmet conquered the city of Trabzon and thus incorporated it into the empire.

For the 2011/12 season, Mustafa Reşit Akçay was brought in, a coach who two seasons earlier led the unknown provincial team Tavşanlı Linyitspor with a modest squad in the TFF 1st Lig and in the following season up to the play-offs of the 1st Lig came. Akçay, who is a native of Trabzon and previously worked at Trabzonspor as a youth and assistant coach, willingly accepted this offer on worse terms than he had been offered by Linyitspor. This collaboration quickly bore fruit. So you finished the 2011/12 season as champions of the TFF 2nd Lig and for the first time in the club's history achieved direct promotion to the TFF 1st Lig.

Promoted to the TFF 1st Lig, the club became the surprise team of the 2012/13 second division season . They led the table in phases and were in one of the top three places in the table for almost the entire season. Although in the winter break 2012/13 with Abdullah Karmil , Sercan Kaya and Eren Albayrak three important top performers left the club, they stayed in the top third of the table, surprisingly ended the season in 3rd place in the table and thus qualified for the playoff phase. Since the Turkish Football Association forbade two directly related teams from being in the same league, they did not participate in the finals and thus prevented a conflict in advance.

With the end of the professional leagues in summer 2013, Trabzonspor elected a new club president with İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu . As one of his first acts, he introduced Mustafa Reşit Akçay as the new head coach of Trabzonspor. Akçay followed Kadir Özcan as head coach. Özcan died after a heart attack on October 22, 2013.
