The Spor Toto Süper Lig 2012/13 was the 55th season of the top Turkish league in men's football . It started on August 17, 2012 with the game Eskişehirspors against newly promoted Akhisar Belediyespor . The season ended with the 34th matchday on May 19, 2013, the winter break lasted from December 23, 2012 to January 18, 2013.
The champions of the Süper Lig were not determined in play-off mode like last year , but after the regular season. Newcomer Akhisar Belediyespor became the 68th participant since the founding of the Süper Lig. After the 32nd matchday, Galatasaray Istanbul secured the 19th championship in the club's history early with a 4-2 home win against Sivasspor and rose to the sole record champions until April 2014.
The top two of the season took part in the UEFA Champions League 2013/14 according to the UEFA five-year rating, with the first-placed qualifier directly and the second-placed finisher having to qualify through the qualifying rounds based on his club coefficient . The teams in third and fourth places, as well as the cup winners, qualified for the 2013/14 UEFA Europa League .
Attendees
For the 2012/13 Süper Lig, the 15 clubs remaining from the previous season were joined by the three promoted teams from the last second division season . The climbers were the second division champions Akhisar Belediyespor , the runner-up Elazığspor and the play-off winner Kasımpaşa Istanbul . While Elazığspor returned to the Süper Lig with the rise after nine years and Kasımpaşa after a year, the rise meant the first first division participation in the club's history for Akhisar Belediyespor.
