1st Lig 1988/89

The 1st Lig 1989/90 was the 32nd season of the highest Turkish league in men's football . It started on September 2, 1989 with the game Sarıyer SK against the Mediterranean club Adana Demirspor and ended on May 20, 1990 with the last game day. From January 14, 1990 to February 4, 1990, the season was interrupted by the winter break.

Beşiktaş Istanbul became the first and thus Turkish champion . For the club it was the eighth championship title.

Due to a reduction in the league from 18 to 16 teams, there was a record number of five relegated teams in the second division in 1990 .

Attendees

For the 1st Lig 1989/90, the two promoted teams from the last second division season have been added to the 16 clubs that remained from the previous season . The climbers were the two second division champions Zeytinburnuspor and Gençlerbirliği Ankara . While Gençlerbirliği achieved direct resurgence, the rise meant the first first division participation in the club's history for Zeytinburnuspor.
