All 18 teams played against each other at home and away, so that each club played 34 games. After the end of the regular season (Lig Grubu), 2 play-off group phases took place to determine the champion and the participants in the European competition. The last three teams were relegated directly to Bank Asya 1st Lig . Also new this season was that seven match days took place during the week. The remaining 27 match days took place between Friday and Monday. The following match days were played from Tuesday to Thursday: 3rd, 8th, 12th, 15th, 18th, 20th and 24th matchdays.
As a result, z. B. from the beginning of the 2nd game day until the end of the 4th game day at least one game took place every day.

Super final

After the end of the 34th matchday of the regular season (Lig Grubu), the first four teams qualified for the championship group (Süper Final Şampiyonluk Grubu) and took over half of their points, but not the goals or goal differences. If half of the points were not a whole number, they were rounded up and taken into account again at the end if the points were equal.

The championship group (Süper Final Şampiyonluk Grubu) was played in the league system with a return game, so that there were 6 game days with 2 games each. The winner of the championship group (Süper Final Şampiyonluk Grubu) was champion of the Süper Lig 2011/12. Another play-off round was held parallel to the championship group (Süper Final Şampiyonluk Grubu) . The fifth to eighth of the regular season (Lig Grubu) formed the play-off UEFA Europa League group (Süper Final Avrupa ligi Grubu). Play-Off UEFA Europa League group was also played in the league system (see championship round).

You qualify for the European competition as follows:

  • The winner of the championship group (Süper Final Şampiyonluk Grubu) takes part in the group stage of the 2012/13 UEFA Champions League .
  • The second in the championship group (Süper Final Şampiyonluk Grubu) takes part in the UEFA Champions League 2012/13 (3rd qualifying round).
  • The third of the championship group (Süper Final Şampiyonluk Grubu) takes part in the UEFA Europa League 2012/13 (3rd qualifying round).
  • The winner of the play-off UEFA Europa League group (Süper Final Avrupa ligi Grubu) and the fourth of the championship group (Süper Final Şampiyonluk Grubu) play a final game (Süper Final'lar Arası Final Müsabakası) on a neutral place and the winner is at the 2012/13 UEFA Europa League (2nd qualifying round).

However, the final game no longer took place. Bursaspor takes part in the cup final and is therefore automatically qualified for the UEFA Europa League , since final opponents Fenerbahçe Istanbul are already qualified as runners-up for the UEFA Champions League . At the same time, Bursaspor was fifth in their play-off group, so Beşiktaş Istanbul is eligible to play in the Europa League.

Beşiktaş Istanbul was banned from all European competitions for one year for violating financial fair play . As a result, Eskişehirspor moved up in the second qualifying round, Bursaspor started in the third qualifying round and Trabzonspor in the playoff round.
