Hikmet Karaman (born March 9, 1960 in Tirebolu ) is a Turkish football coach.
Career
Before becoming head coach, he was assistant coach at Galatasaray Istanbul . There he was assistant coach to Reiner Hollmann and Reinhard Saftig .
In the 2006/07 season , Karaman MKE Ankaragücü trained . In 2007/08 he took over the coaching position at BB Ankaraspor from the 9th game day and replaced Aykut Kocaman .
On the 29th matchday of the 2007/08 season he took over the coaching position at the second division Antalyaspor and replaced Raşit Çetiner . At the end of the season he was runner-up with the club in the 1st Lig and thus made it to the Süper Lig . Due to differences with the club's management, his contract was terminated and his position was filled with Jozef Jarabinský .
After being out of work for almost a year, he took over the relegation-threatened Süper Lig club MKE Ankaragücü on matchday 25 and managed to stay up at the end of the season. For the new season he continued to coach Ankaragücü. After the club management had changed over the course of the season, he was advised to resign from the new presidium. So he separated from the club after the 12th matchday.
On September 14, 2011, he took over the Süper Lig promoted Manisaspor from Levent Eriş . At this time Manisaspor was with four defeats in four games on the bottom of the table and was already traded as a sure relegated team. Karaman managed to form a strong team in a very short time. Already in his first league game he managed a surprise win against Trabzonspor away from home . In addition, he also won victories against the league greats Galatasaray and Beşiktaş . At the end of the season he finished 10th in the table and formed some players into national players. In the preparation phase for the 2011/12 season he had differences of opinion with the club administration, which is why his assistant coaches were dismissed without giving a reason. In response, Karaman terminated his contract and left Manisaspor.
On January 27, 2012, he took over the traditional club Gaziantepspor, which was seriously threatened by relegation . Within a very short time he was able to get important points with the highly insecure team and thus bring them to a safe place in the table. The 2012/13 season was unsatisfactory for Karaman and his team. After 20th match days, the team finished 15th, which is why Karaman was dismissed from the club on February 5, 2013. One day after his release from Gaziantepspor, Karaman signed with league rivals Bursaspor . With Bursaspor he finished the first division 2012/13 in 4th place in the table and thus achieved the best first division placement he had so far achieved with a team.
Karaman was released on August 9, 2013 at Bursaspor. The reason for the dismissal was the elimination of his team in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League against FK Vojvodina Novi Sad . Just before the winter break of the 2013/14 season, Karaman took over the team from penultimate Kayseri Erciyesspor . He saved this club from relegation, which the specialist press did not give much chance of staying up. Despite this success, his contract, which expired at the end of the season, was not extended.
On December 14, 2014 Karaman took over the post of head coach at Çaykur Rizespor for the third time . He trained this club until he resigned in October 2017.
In mid-December 2018, he was introduced as the new head coach at the relegation-threatened club Kayserispor, which he had already coached from 2004 to 2006. He led this club out of relegation zone after a few matchdays.
