Osmanlıspor Futbol Kulübü , or Osmanlıspor for short or Osmanlıspor FK (until August 2014 still Ankara Spor Kulübü ) in German-speaking countries also known as Osmanlispor FK Ankara , is a Turkish sports club. It was founded in 1978 in Ankara and was for a long time the company sports club of the Ankara city administration. The club plays its home games at Osmanlı Stadı , which has a capacity of 18,029 spectators. The association currently has 96,000 members.

history

Name change

The association was founded in 1978 as Ankara Belediyespor. After six years it was called Ankara Büyükşehir Belediyespor. In 1998 there was another name change, this time the name was Büyükşehir Belediye Ankaraspor, and since 2005 the club has appeared as Ankaraspor. The last name change was accompanied by a focus on football . The previous departments of badminton , basketball , boxing , ice hockey , weightlifting , handball , judo , rowing , taekwondo , tennis and table tennis were spun off into an association that continues the old name Büyükşehir Belediye Ankaraspor Kulübü .

Forced relegation to the 2nd division

Ankaraspor had to relegate to Bank Asya 1. Lig, the second Turkish league, in 2009 due to a penalty from the Turkish Football Association (TFF) , as some association rules had been violated. Before the start of the 2009/10 season , Ankaraspor wanted to enter into a merger with city rivals MKE Ankaragücü ; this was prevented by the Turkish Football Association with an urgent decision. As a result, the previous sports director of Ankaraspor and son of Mayor Melih Gökçek , Ahmet Gökçek , was elected President of MKE Ankaragücü and five players switched to MKE Ankaragücü in a short time. In order to avoid distortion of competition between the two clubs, the association decided to exclude Ankaraspor for the 2009/10 season. The club's license was revoked on August 4, 2010 by the Turkish Football Association (TFF) . Thus the club could no longer pursue any sporting activities. All remaining games were rated with a 0-3 defeat.

Resumption of league operations and return to the TFF 1st Lig

After being excluded from the league, the club obtained participation in the Süper Lig and the TFF 1st Lig by court order . Since after the exclusion from the league all professionals were released and there was no sufficient team available for the 2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons, they decided not to participate in the game at a later date, despite the announcement. Ankaraspor's reserve team, Ankaraspor A2 , ended the A2 Ligi 2012/13 with the league championship. It prevailed in the final against the reserve team of city rivals Gençlerbirliği Ankara . On the way back after the decisive championship encounter, the team bus got into an accident in which 17 people were injured and one was killed.

For the 2013/14 season, Ankaraspor announced that it would again participate in the game operations of the Süper Lig , the highest Turkish football league. This request for participation was refused by the Turkish Football Association and the club was forced to participate in the 2nd division. In the subsequent negotiations of this refusal, both sides agreed to participate in the game operations of the TFF 1st Lig , the 2nd Turkish football league. After this confirmation of participation, Osman Özköylü was hired as the master coach of the past second division season. According to the ideas, a competitive team was put together with the largest budget of all second division clubs, largely through the acquisition of new players and partly from players from the reserve or youth team.

With Özköylü, the club played for the championship and promotion from the start of the season. On matchday 15, the team took the lead, lost it after a few weeks and fought for it again in the second half of the season. Towards the end of the season, however, the club slipped again and secured participation in the play-offs with 4th place in the table. In the playoff semifinals, the club failed at Samsunspor and thus missed promotion.

Change of name to Osmanlıspor FK

After the end of the 2013/14 season, the club management announced that they wanted to change the club name, and named 1299 Osmanlıspor FK or Osmanlıspor FK as a possible new name . Ultimately, the decision was made for Osmanlıspor FK and an application was made to the Turkish Football Association to change its name. In mid-August 2014, the association approved the name change and the participation with the new name in the second division season 2014/15 . In addition to the club name, the club colors were changed from blue-white to purple-yellow and the logo was redesigned.

Return to the Süper Lig

Despite the failed promotion, the club held on to coach Osman Özköylü at the start of the TFF 1. Lig 2014/15 . Again the team started the season well and seemed to lose contact to the top of the table towards the end of the first half of the season. There were also internal unrest between Özköylü and some players and external controversies between Özköylü and the press. So he dissolved his contract on December 22nd, 2014 after mutual agreement with the club's management and left the club. A few days after Özköylü's departure, the club introduced Yılmaz Vural as the new head coach. He stayed in office for only two weeks and left the association without giving any reason. The German-Turk Uğur Tütüneker followed Vural . Under the new coach, the team gradually reduced the point difference to second-placed Adana Demirspor . With the 2-0 home win against their direct rivals Demirspor, the club took second place in the table and increased the point difference over the next two weeks. The club secured the runner-up in the league and direct promotion to the Süper Lig with a 4: 3 away win at Antalyaspor . After six years of abstinence and a new name, the club returned to the top Turkish league and became the second capital club after Gençlerbirliği Ankara .
