history

Foundation and the first years

In the district town of Menemen, a sports club under the name Menemen Türk Ocağı İdman Yurdu was founded as early as 1927 . Since this association had not officially registered as an association, this association was not registered as such.

The first official establishment took place in 1947 under the name Menemen Gençlik Spor Kulübü or Menemen Gençlik for short in the local Halkevi . The Halkevleri were state-sponsored people's houses in which the socioculture of the population was promoted. The founding members were Bedri Onat, Nadir Gündüz, Muhittin Hakkı, Nizamettin Bay, Saim Dinçer, Vecip Dolunay and Halil Uyanık. As the club colors those of the then very popular Istanbul club Fenerbahçe were chosen.

After the club was founded, the club took part in the Mahalli Lig , a kind of regional league. In the season 1942/43 reached in this league Altınordu Izmir the championship, while Menemen Gençlik reached the 3rd place in the table. Menemenspor played in this league until 1950. Subsequently, the Mahalli Lig was fundamentally changed and the teams of all district towns in the province of Izmir were gathered in it. 1955 Menenmenspor reached the championship of this league. In the 1950s, the Menemen Güneş Spor Kulübü bw association was also founded. short Menemen Güneşspor . Thus, two teams took part in the Mahalli Lig in the 1956/57 season from Menemen . The two teams played together in this league for three years. After these three years, Güneşspor withdrew from the league due to financial difficulties. At the suggestion of those responsible at Güneşspor, this association was incorporated into Menemen Gençlik.

The 1960/61 season was very problematic for the club. In the home game against Armutlu Gençlik there was a mass brawl in which the referees were also physically attacked. In response, the Turkish Football Association suspended Menemen Gençlik from all competitions for a year and withdrew most of the players' licenses for an indefinite period. For the 1962/63 season, the game ban for players and club was lifted, whereupon the club board met again and Çetin Ceylan elected club president. The club then played in the Mahalli Lig for the next 14 years.

Entry into professional football and the third division years

After Turkish professional football had been reduced from three to just two professional leagues in the summer of 1980, the third highest professional football league, the 3rd Lig , now known as TFF 2nd Lig , was reintroduced in 1984 on the directive of then President Turgut Özal . In addition, it was announced that one could apply for participation in the league after certain conditions had been met. In order to promote urban development, several city notables tried to meet the requirements. For example, the Turkish Football Association asked for a guarantee of 15 million Turkish Lira . This sum was made available mainly through the joint efforts of the mayor İlhami Gürsoy and the club president Sabri Karakaş . After the requirements were met, the national football association confirmed participation. So the club took part with its new name Menemen Spor Kulübü or in short form Menemenspor in the season 1984/85 of the re-introduced 3rd Lig. In the first season they finished behind Manisaspor and Akhisarspor in 3rd place in the table. In the following seasons, the club played for the championship throughout the season and missed promotion to the 2nd Futbol Ligi at the end of the season .

Towards the end of the 1985/86 season, Kadir Menteşoğlu was elected club president. Under the leadership of this club president, massive investments were made in the team and Mustafa Özkula was hired as coach . This coach led the club in its 3rd third division season , in the 1986/87 season , to the hoped-for championship and thus to promotion to the 2nd league. During the first second division season Menteşoğlu resigned from his position and made sure that a new club board was chosen. After the league could still be saved in the first two seasons second division, the club came in the 1989/90 season in great financial difficulties and thus increased after two years of second division belongs back in the third Lig from. Also in the next season, the club missed relegation and finally dissolved in the summer of 1991, heavily in debt.

Second foundation

In 1993 the club was re-established in 1993 as a company sports club of the city administration under the name Yeni Menemen Belediye Spor Kulübü or Yeni Menemen Belediyespor . After the club was founded, the club took part in the lowest regional amateur league and gradually worked its way up to the higher Turkish amateur leagues before advancing to the highest Turkish amateur league, the Bölgesel Amatoer Ligi (BAL), in the 2000s .

Return to professional football and modern times

In the 2007/08 season, the club made it into the promotion round of the TFF 3rd Lig , prevailed here against all rivals and, after 20 years of abstinence, took part in Turkish professional football again.

After the rise, the club took part in the competition of the TFF 3rd Lig with its new name Menemen Belediye Spor Kulübü or Menemen Belediyespor . The league phase of the fourth division season 2013/14 ended the club in fifth place and qualified for the playoff round. In this, the team prevailed 1-0 against Yeni Diyarbakırspor and rose again after 13 years in the TFF 2nd Lig .
