Foundation and the first years

The association was founded in 1938 in what was then the Istanbul suburb of Ümraniye . The club, located on the Asian side of Istanbul, played for a long time in the lower regional amateur leagues. After the military coup in Turkey in 1980 , the suburb was incorporated into the city of Istanbul. With this incorporation, Ümraniyespor began to participate directly in the Istanbul amateur leagues.

Entry into professional football and the third division years

After Turkish professional football had been reduced from three to just two professional leagues in the summer of 1980, the third highest professional football league, the 3rd Lig , now known as TFF 2nd Lig , was reintroduced in 1984 on the directive of then President Turgut Özal . In addition, it was announced that after certain requirements and conditions have been met, you can apply for participation in the league. In order to promote urban development, several city notables tried to meet the requirements. After this was successful, the Turkish Football Association confirmed participation. So Ümraniyespor took part in the 1984/85 season of the re-introduced 3rd Lig. In the first two seasons of this league, the club occupied table positions in the lower half of the table, but because this season was played without relegation, the club remained in this league. In the season 1986/87 you finished the league as bottom of the table and rose, since the league was played this time with relegation from. In the summer of 1990, the club returned to professional football, but rose again after three seasons. In 1999 they took part again in the 3rd division, but rose again to amateur football at the end of the season.

Return to professional football

After the club had spent twelve years in the regional amateur league, he rose to the fourth highest Turkish league, the TFF 3rd Lig , in the summer of 2011 . After he managed to stay in the league here in the first season, he played for a long time in the fourth division season 2012/13 for promotion to the TFF 2. Lig . At the end of the season he missed direct promotion through fifth place in the table, instead he qualified for the playoffs of the league. In these playoffs, the last three promoted players were played. Ümraniyespor reached the final here, but missed promotion in the final due to a 5-0 defeat against Dardanelspor .

In the 2013/14 season , the club achieved the championship of the TFF 3rd Lig on matchday 30 with a 2-1 win over Yeşil Bursa SK and thus the direct promotion to the TFF 2nd Lig. year of absence back to the third highest Turkish league.

Promotion to the TFF 1st Lig

Over the entire 2015/16 third division season , Ümraniyespor fought head-to-head with city rivals İstanbulspor for the third division championship. After both clubs had replaced each other as leaders several times over the season and İstanbulspor was able to finish the first half of the season as autumn champions, there was a play-off between the two clubs on matchday 32. Before this game, Ümraniyespor was leading the table with 72 points and was five points ahead of second placed opponent İstanbulspor.
