Bayram Kadir Bektaş (born February 10, 1974 in Trabzon ) is a former Turkish football player and coach.
Player career
Bektaş grew up in France and attended AJ Auxerre's youth department here . In 1994 he was accepted into the squad as an amateur player at the Turkish third division club Bilecikspor . Here he quickly made it to a regular player and advanced to one of the league's shooting stars.
His achievements at Bilecikspor led him to the Istanbul second division Sarıyer SK committed him in the summer of 1995 . With this club, too, he quickly made it into the regular formation and rose with this as runner-up in the second division season 1995/96 in the 1st league . Bektaş kept his regular place in the top Turkish league. After his club was relegated from the league again after one season, Bektaş moved to the first division team Antalyaspor . For this club he played for a season as a regular player and also started the new season here.
In November 1998 he moved from Antalyaspor to league rivals Altay Izmir during the current season . With this club he increased his performance. So he started the 1999/2000 season with three goals in eight league games. Through these achievements, he was noticed by the people in charge of Beşiktaş Istanbul and was committed by them in November 1999. In the Istanbul team he was used by head coach Hans-Peter Briegel in most of the remaining league games. His club fought head-to-head for the Turkish championship with arch rivals Galatasaray Istanbul for a long time and finished the 1999/2000 season behind them as runner-up. After Bektaş had only lost his regular place in the 2001/02 season under Briegel's successor Nevio Scala , he won it back in the second half of the season. After Scala was replaced by Christoph Daum in March 2001 , Bektaş further consolidated his position within the team. With Daum, the club had no chance in the championship in the 2000/01 and 2001/02 seasons, but the final of the Turkish Football Cup was reached in the 2001/02 season . In the final, Bektaş's team surprisingly lost 4-0 to Kocaelispor and missed winning the title. In the summer of 2002, Beşiktaş replaced Daum with Mircea Lucescu . Under this coach, Bektaş lost his regular place and played six competitive games over the entire season and only one of them over 90 minutes. As part of the team, he became a Turkish champion with them . In addition, his team reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup this season and thus achieved the best club placement in the European Cup competitions.
In the summer of 2003 Bektaş left Beşiktaş and moved to league rivals Trabzonspor , the most successful club in his hometown Trabzon . After he had not been used in a single competitive game by head coach Samet Aybaba until the next winter break , Bektaş switched to league rivals Konyaspor for the second half of the season .
For Konyaspor Bektaş only played until the end of the season and then moved on to Kocaelispor within the league . Here he completed only six league appearances over the entire season and then ended his playing career in summer 2005.
Coaching career
Bektaş started working for the Turkish first division club Sivasspor as a senior manager in 2007 . In this role he formed a successful team with the head coach Bülent Uygun which allowed the club to play for the Turkish championship for a long time in two seasons and won the runner-up in the 2008/09 season .
From the summer of 2010 he began as Uyguns assistant coach to assist him and followed him in his coaching stations Bucaspor and Eskişehirspor . After Uygun was arrested at the latter in the summer of 2011 due to the match-fixing scandal in Turkish football and could not continue his activity, he was replaced by Michael Skibbe . Bektaş assisted Skibbe until November 2011. After Uygun was released from prison, Bektaş worked with Uygun on his subsequent coaching stations.
In April 2015, he took over the post of head coach at Elazığspor . Since Bektaş did not have the necessary coaching license at this time, he worked unofficially as head coach in the second half of the 2014/15 season, while Faruk Korkmaz was specified as the official head coach of the association . With the 2015/16 season he also worked as the official head coach, as he had acquired the necessary license in the meantime. Bektaş's team got off to a successful start this season. After the club took place in the table in the upper third of the table, they took the lead after the 1-0 home win over Adana Demirspor on matchday 8. Then the team was only able to get one point out of three games. This led some fans to demand Bektaş's resignation. On November 12, 2015, the termination of the contract between Bektaş and the association was announced by mutual agreement.
In early December 2015 he was hired as the new head coach at the second division Gaziantep Büyükşehir Belediyespor .
In November 2016 he took over the second division side Elazığspor again. With this club he reached relegation early despite a six point deduction and limited financial resources. At the end of the season he left this club and took over Istanbul league rivals Ümraniyespor . In the summer of 2019 he took over the first division club Göztepe Izmir and trained it until his release in December 2019. He then trained the league rival MKE Ankaragücü and was released here after 25 days.
