history
The association was founded on February 7, 1969 under the leadership of Beşir Bayram . The club colors red and black indicate the defense of the city in the Turkish Liberation War (1919–1923), with black symbolizing mourning and red the shed blood.
In the 1970/71 season, the team played their first game in the Turkish third division. The promotion to the second division succeeded in the following season. After seven years in the second division Gaziantepspor rose to the first division. However, great success could not be recorded, and thus the team rose in the 1982/83 season. In the Turkish Süper Lig they have been since the 1989/90 season and from then on they managed to gain more and more prestige and strength, not least thanks to the clever economic policy of the club's long-time president, Celal Doğan , who ran the club between 1994 and 2004 headed. The team could not celebrate any notable successes, but was still considered the feared opponent of the Istanbul big clubs. In addition, Gaziantepspor was known for promoting young players who later moved to the major Istanbul clubs such as B. Gökhan Güleç , İbrahim Toraman , Ayhan Akman , İsmail Köybaşı and İbrahim Üzülmez . Gaziantepspor was friends with MKE Ankaragücü and later also with Bursaspor .
In the 2016/17 season they were in 17th place in the table after 34 match days and had to relegate to the TFF 1st Lig . In the following season, the dissolution of the club was announced on the last day of 2017. The reason given was the debt burden.
