Mehmet Çoğum (born February 5, 1983 in İskenderun ) is a Turkish football player .

Career

Club career

Çoğum began his football career at İskenderun Esenspor. In February 1999 he was nominated here for the Turkish U-15 youth national team and then played in the international matches in front of a large number of talent hunters. He was noticed by the Çanakkale Dardanelspor scouts . A short time later he signed a professional contract with Dardanelspor. Here he played for two years almost exclusively for the youth and reserve team. After the winter break of 2000/01, he took part in the professional training camp and was then involved in the professional squad. He made his professional debut on November 19, 2000 in the league game against Sakaryaspor . By the end of the season he made nine league games. In the new season he finally made his breakthrough.

After five years at Dardanelspor, he moved to the Süper Lig club Gaziantepspor . Here he established himself as a regular player and held this position for two and a half seasons. In the course of the 2007/08 season he then lost his regular place, but was occasionally used as a substitute.

In the summer of 2008 he then moved to league rivals Konyaspor . Here he played consistently as a regular player, but left the club after its relegation to the TFF 1st Lig . He moved to the first division Denizlispor for the new season . With his new team he did not succeed in relegation again.

So he left his club again and came to an agreement with the newly promoted Karabükspor .

Here he failed to jump into the starting line-up, so he moved to MKE Ankaragücü for the second half of the league . In the first weeks of the 2011/12 season, his club ran into financial difficulties and could not pay the players' salaries for a long time. So many players split up. Çoğum was one of the few professionals who remained loyal to the club and also led the club through the relegation battle.

For the 2013/14 season Çoğum moved to the second division TKİ Tavşanlı Linyitspor . Since he was only used twice in the first half of the season, he moved to Karşıyaka SK during the winter break within the league . In November 2014 he left Karşıyaka prematurely and without a competitive game.

National team career

Çoğum started playing for the Turkish national youth teams at an early age. He went through the U-15, U-16, U-17 , U-19, U-20 and U-21 youth teams.
