TFF 2nd Lig 2017/18
TFF 1st Lig 2018/19

The TFF 2nd Lig 2018/19 was the 48th season of the third highest Turkish division in men's football. It began on September 1, 2018 with the first match day and ended with the playoff final on May 28, 2019.

Competition mode

In the 2018/19 season, the TFF 2nd Lig was divided into two groups of 18 teams each, as in the previous season . In these groups, the "white group" (beyaz group) and "red group" (kırmızı group) call, these teams played for promotion to the TFF 1st Lig and against relegation to the fourth-class TFF 3rd Lig . The division of the teams into the respective groups was determined by a draw on July 2, 2018 in the Orhan Saka House of Amateurs (Turkish: Orhan Saka Amatörler Evi ) in the Sarıyer district of Istanbul . The draw for the game schedule was made on July 16, 2018 at the same location.

The top of the table in both groups rose directly to the higher TFF 1st Lig . The teams in places two to five in both groups took part in the play-offs, in which the third promoted team was determined by the knockout system . The play-offs began with the quarter-finals. All play-off phases except the final match are played with a home and away leg. Only the final was then held in a city that was neutral for both participating teams and only played out with one game. In the playoff, the runners-up of the respective group met on the table fifth of the same group and the table third of the respective group on the table fourth of the same group. With the exception of the final, each knockout round was played with two matches in a two-legged manner.

The last three placed in both groups were relegated to the TFF 3rd Lig .

Foreigners' places

Foreign players are not allowed to play in the TFF 2. Lig. Teams that have been relegated from the TFF 1st Lig can loan their foreign players to clubs in the upper leagues.

Special occurrences

  • On the 24th matchday, a game between Amed SK and Sakaryaspor came to a head, when after the game it could be proven by video clips that Mansur Çalar from Amed SK had smuggled a razor blade into the field and also used it on four opponents and cut the latter . The disciplinary committee of the Turkish Football Association punished Çalar with a four-year ban for this extremely gross unsporting behavior. Since, according to the rules of the Turkish Football Association, an exclusion of more than three years automatically leads to a lifelong ban, Çalar is no longer allowed to play in any game, at least in Turkey, for both professional and amateur clubs. He was also fined 25,000 Turkish Lira (around 4,000 euros). Çalar himself denies the allegations and is of the opinion that he did not use a razor blade or other objects, this cannot be seen on the videos. He has been a professional footballer for more than 15 years and would not allow himself such derailments. Amed SK stood behind Çalar and claimed at a press conference that Çalar and Amed SK were victims of a "plot". The players from Sakaryaspor were programmed from the beginning of the game to provoke the players from Amed SK . As proof, the President of von showed a photo in which the professional Dilaver Güçlü can be seen forming his hands in a wolf salute while playing the Turkish national anthem , a characteristic of the right-wing extremist movement of the Gray Wolves . According to Karakaş, if Çalar had used a razor blade, the players would have to roll on the floor in pain or at least bleed, but neither was shown on the videos. In his view, the supposed victims would have inflicted the cuts themselves.
  • Before the 2018/19 season, the Niğde Belediyespor club was taken over by the second division Altınordu Izmir as its second club and renamed Niğde Anadolu FK .

At the beginning of the season, the three relegated teams from the TFF 1.Lig Sancaktepe Belediyespor , Bodrum Belediyesi Bodrumspor and Afjet Afyonspor and the six newly promoted teams from the TFF 3.Lig Manisa Büyükşehir Belediyespor , Utaş Uşakspor , Darıca Gençler , Ankara Demirspor , Bayrampaşaspor , Tarsus İdman Yurdu have been added.

    List of goalscorers

The Turkish Football Association (TFF) maintains separate goalscorer lists for both groups in the TFF 2nd Lig, but determines the top scorer at the end of the season from a single, combined goalscorer list. Goals scored in the relegation phase of the season were not included in the goalscorer list. If the number of hits is the same, the players are sorted alphabetically by surname or artist name.
