Mete Kalkavan (born August 17, 1979 in Istanbul ) is a Turkish football referee .

Career

In 1999 Kalkavan took his referee examination and had his first appearance in the PAF Lig at the game İstanbulspor - Altay Izmir .

He made his debut in the highest Turkish football league, the Süper Lig , on September 14, 2003. Kalkavan led the match between MKE Ankaragücü and Denizlispor .

He has been a FIFA referee since December 24, 2012 .

Private

Already in his youth he had sporting interests, partly due to his father. He was on the board of the amateur club Samsun Yolspor for 14 years and at Samsunspor for two and a half years . Before he devoted himself to his arbitration work, Kalkavan was on the board of the Turkish handball association .

His father, Ahmet İhsan Kalkavan, is a member of the CHP and a deputy from the city of Samsun .
