Assault

  • At the Turkish first division game on March 17, 2007 between the home team Vestel Manisaspor and bottom of the table Sakaryaspor Çakır was a victim of assault . In the 38th minute of the game he sent the goalkeeper Bülent Ataman of the home team with a red card from the field. After a tussle between Manisa player Selçuk İnan and Sakarya player Alejandro Capurro , a pack formed . The goalkeeper Ataman stormed excitedly from his goalkeeping zone towards Çakır and protested the decision extremely and caused the game to be interrupted for a long time. Ataman had to be held back by his teammates because of his agitation. After a conversation between Çakır and his assistant referee, he showed the players the yellow card, then Ataman got upset again and this time attacked Çakır aggressively and thus the goalkeeper received the red card. Then tore Ataman him the FIFA - cockade on his jersey. Subsequently, the Manisaspor goalkeeping coach Metin Bayındır interfered from the field and gave the Turkish referee a punch . After these riots , Çakır withdrew with his team of referees into the dressing room and decided to break off the football match early. The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) did not restart the match and rated it as a 3-0 defeat for Vestel Manisaspor. The consequences: after this game Manisa coach Ersun Yanal resigned from his position. The TFF ethics committee initially sanctioned the goalkeeper Ataman with a compulsory game ban of 20 games and the goalkeeper coach Bayındır with a three-year ban, but after appeals to the TFF arbitration board , it was reduced to twelve games or a shortened ban .
