Kim Milton Nielsen (born August 3, 1960 in Copenhagen ) is a former Danish football referee .

The 1.96 m tall “giant” from Ballerup near Copenhagen is one of the world's best FIFA referees. In 2001 he reached third place in the ranking of the world's best football referees, behind Pierluigi Collina and Anders Frisk and in 2002 behind Collina and Urs Meier . In the years before and after that he also achieved top placements.

He made his first major international appearance at the 1993 UEFA Super Cup between Werder Bremen and FC Barcelona . The 1996 European Football Championship in England was his first major tournament as a referee. He has not missed a single FIFA or UEFA tournament since then. In England he directed the preliminary round match between Germany and Russia . At the 1998 World Cup in France , he was allowed to direct two games. First the group game between Germany and Yugoslavia , then in the round of 16 the legendary game between Argentina and England , in which he sent David Beckham off and England lost on penalties . In 1998 he had an extremely rare appearance for a European referee at the African Cup of Nations in Burkina Faso .

At the European Football Championship in 2000 , he again led a game with German participation, the first round game against Romania , as well as at the 2002 World Cup , where he led the game between Germany and Ireland . In this tournament he whistled three games. His last appearance was in the semi-final between Brazil and Turkey .

His last appearance at a major tournament was the 2004 European Football Championship in Portugal . He ended his career in 2005 when he reached the age limit of 45 years. Kim Milton Nielsen is an IT manager by profession.

In 1989 he whistled the final of the Futsal World Cup together with the Scot William Crombie .
