In the third round, which was also the second round, there was a curious situation before the second leg of Rapid Vienna at Real Madrid on December 9th (0-0) due to a missing referee. It was obviously first the English referee Courtney, then Hunting assigned, but both of the UEFA canceled. The Swiss Baumann, third in the list, was unable to leave due to an air traffic controller strike in Switzerland, but should have arrived in Madrid on the match day at 2.30 p.m. Another way out was a referee from Portugal, and ultimately it should be Franco Martinez, number 1 on the Spanish referee list. Ultimately, Jack Baumann led the match.

final

Hamburger SV was the favorite before the two games. After the team had to accept a late goal in the first leg, they countered in the second leg and lost significantly. The IFK Göteborg thus succeeded in the 1981/82 season the triple of the Swedish championship, national cup and winning the European Cup. With this triple, the master trainer Sven-Göran Eriksson started his international career as trainer of IFK Göteborg.
