Holger Hieronymus (born February 22, 1959 in Hamburg ) is a former German soccer player .
Athletic career
Club career
After his youth at TuS Hamburg 1880 and FC St. Pauli , where he made his debut in German professional football as a teenager, he moved to local rivals Hamburger SV in 1979 . In the Bundesliga he played 121 times for HSV from 1979 to 1984. He won the German championship with the Red Pants in 1982 and 1983 , reached the UEFA Cup final in 1982 and won the European Cup in 1983 after beating Juventus Turin 1-0 in the final .
Selection bets
In 1981 and 1982 he played a total of three times in the German national team and was part of the squad of the vice world championship team on call at the 1982 World Cup . After a serious injury from a foul by Fritz Walter , Hieronymus had to end his playing career early in 1984.
Professional career
From June 1998 to August 31, 2002 Hieronymus was sports director at Hamburger SV and in 2001 also took over the post of interim head coach for two match days. From February 1, 2005 to December 31, 2012 he was managing director of the German Football League . His successor there was Andreas Rettig .
Trivia
On April 16, 2010, Hieronymus suffered a cerebral haemorrhage in his apartment in Frankfurt am Main and was treated in the intensive care unit of a hospital. He started early rehabilitation just five weeks later.
