Aleksandar Ristić (born June 28, 1944 in Sarajevo ) is a former Yugoslav soccer player and Yugoslav and Bosnian coach . Since 1974 he was active in German football ; initially as a player, later as a coach.
Career
player
Ristić played for Velež Mostar , Hajduk Split and FK Sarajevo until 1974 . In 1974 the trained sports teacher moved to the German Bundesliga - coach Branko Zebec made him his assistant at Eintracht Braunschweig . In the midfield of Eintracht he completed 78 league games from 1974 to 1978 and scored three goals. There were also four appearances in the European Cup .
Trainer
As a trainer, he initially worked briefly under Zebec in 1980 as an assistant trainer at Hamburger SV and became head coach for six months after the latter's dismissal. Then he was again assistant coach under Ernst Happel until 1983. It followed almost two years as head coach at Eintracht Braunschweig, where he was dismissed in the spring of 1985 after problems with the president of Eintracht Günter Mast . He then returned to HSV as an assistant coach. From 1987 he was head coach at Fortuna Düsseldorf for three and a half years , and from January 1991 for one and a half years at FC Schalke 04 . In the summer of 1992 he returned to Düsseldorf for four and a quarter years. Because of his long work for Düsseldorf, the fans there called him King Aleks . The song Here comes Alex from the Düsseldorf band Die Toten Hosen is not about this coaching legend, but the fans coined it accordingly. His last and third intermezzo as coach of Fortuna Düsseldorf he gave for six months until the end of 2000, but where he was dismissed for failure.
From 1998 to 2003 Ristić was coach at Rot-Weiß Oberhausen with one interruption (2000/01) . His last position in professional football at 1. FC Union Berlin in 2004 lasted only a few months, as the team was relegated from the second Bundesliga. In the 2007/08 season Ristić returned to the coaching bench. The Bosnian signed a contract with the upper division KFC Uerdingen 05 as the successor to Jürgen Luginger , which was terminated prematurely on March 22, 2008 by mutual agreement. He has not accepted an offer since then and has since ended his coaching career.
Ristić was also known for always putting a few sweets in his pocket, of which he offered the referees some before the start of the game.
In 2005 the star wrote about Aleksandar Ristić: "He was considered one of the most entertaining coaches in the Bundesliga: the Bosnian, extremely popular with fans and the media, drove many club bosses to despair."
Private life
His move to the Federal Republic became an immigration; Ristić lived with his wife and daughter in Düsseldorf from 1987 to 2012 and now lives in Munich , where his daughter is now studying.
