career
Between 1987 and 2004, Luginger played a total of 84 times in the first and 370 times in the second division . He scored four and 13 goals respectively. The greatest success of his career in 1987 was sixth place in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen.

In 2008 he took over the coaching position of Hans-Günter Bruns at the second division promoted team . He handed it over to Bruns on February 1, 2010 after a lengthy series of negatives.
Since July 1, 2010, Luginger was head coach at the third division promoted 1. FC Saarbrücken . With the FCS he reached sixth place in the 2010/11 season and qualified for the main round of the 2011/12 DFB Cup. On September 5, 2013 he was relieved of his duties as head coach after a 3-2 home defeat against 1. FC Heidenheim .
