history

Until the church is planted

The area around Ergolding was settled since the Neolithic Age (approx. 2000 BC), as excavations in the neighboring municipality of Altdorf show. At the time of the Romans , two important trade routes met here, on which there were guard stations and rest houses at short intervals, from which today's settlements later developed. One street ran on the left bank of the Isar from what is now Augsburg to what is now Passau . The second, a so-called salt road, ran from Castra Regina (today's Regensburg ) to the south. The Isar was probably crossed at today's Altheim. In 1978 a Roman cemetery was discovered north of Ergolding.

Around the first half of the 6th century, many settlements in today's Bavaria were founded by Germanic tribes seeking land. The place names were often formed from the name of the founder by adding the syllable -ing. According to legend, the name Ergolding goes back to a Thomas von Ergolda.

From 788 Ergolding was a royal estate after Charlemagne took over the last Agilolfinger Duke Tassilo III. had dropped out for disobedience. The settlement was first mentioned in a written source in 789. The next later direct mentions in documents date to the years 822 and 824. According to these documents, court or state parliaments took place here. In 1007 Ergolding became the property of the Bamberg bishopric. From the 13th century it was again in the possession of the Bavarian dukes and had a regional court (until the 17th century). In the 15th century Ergolding consisted of about 100 properties. In 1504 it was completely burned down in the Landshut War of Succession . Due to its close proximity to Landshut, which was founded by Ludwig the Kelheimer in 1204 , the village did not develop into a market, but remained agriculturally oriented until the Second World War . In 1808 Ergolding was merged with Piflas and Albing to form a community.

20th century

After the Second World War, many displaced persons in particular settled there, which led to a large increase in the population. On July 17, 1976 Ergolding was granted the market rights.

Outsourcing

The Hascherkeller settlement was reclassified from Ergolding to the independent city of Landshut on July 1, 1974.

Incorporations

On May 1, 1978, the previously independent municipality of Oberglaim was incorporated with the exception of the wasteland fiefs (around twelve residents, after Hohenthann).

According to the Bavarian State Office for Statistics , the population figures developed as follows on December 31 of each year:

Since 1972, the year of the municipal reform, the population has increased by 5,409 people until 2015. This corresponds to a growth of 79.73 percent. In the last ten (five) years the population grew by 5.53 (4.80) percent.

In the period from 1988 to 2018, the population increased from 9,525 to 12,571 by 3,046 inhabitants or 32%.

Ergolding-Population fluctuation.png

The graph on population development from 1972 to 2017 shows that this was essentially positive except for the second half of the 1990s and the first half of the 2010s; In 2017, the number of inhabitants reached a peak for the time being. This growth is generated both by immigration from outside, but also by a still positive balance of births and deaths. However, the trend lines suggest a negative trend in this balance in the near future. The graph showing the ratio of the number of births to the number of inhabitants has shown a significant downward trend since the 1990s. This ratio has risen again for the first time since the second half of the 2010s - parallel to the resumption of immigration to Ergolding at that time. There is currently no sign of a trend reversal.

With the increase in the number of inhabitants, the fluctuation of the population (people moving in and out of the municipality) has also increased. While the average fluctuation in the years 1995 to 2014 was 1,655 people, in the period from 2015 to 2016 it jumped to an average of 2,765 people. In 2017 the fluctuation was e.g. B. 2,095 people. In relation to the total number of residents, this is just under 17 percent.

Due to the proximity to the regional center of Landshut and the very good transport connections, Ergolding has had a large industrial area for many years, which is directly connected to the industrial area Landshut-Nord. The factory premises of BMW , at the same time the largest company based in Ergolding, are located in Landshut and Ergolding at the same time. In addition, there are many medium-sized industrial companies in the industrial area. Markt Ergolding has been awarded the contract by BMW to build an engineering center and a warehouse.

The area between the railway lines is being developed as a new commercial and industrial area. This area, which has hitherto been primarily geared towards the retail and service sector, connects to the north of the existing industrial area and is accessed through Mattarelloallee (north connection to St 2143) built in the late 1990s.

The district of Piflas also has a lively commercial area on Alte Regensburger Strasse, in which primarily retailers and smaller businesses in the service sector have settled.

In April 2013, the market was in the process of changing the land use plan in order to identify further concentration zones for the use of wind power. A feasibility study for the realization of a wind farm to supply up to 18,000 households with electricity with eight wind turbines up to 200 m high between Bruckbach (municipality of Essenbach) and Weihenstephan (municipality of Hohenthann ) was completed and was available for inspection in June 2014 in the municipalities of Ergolding and Essenbach on. Their feeders are the federal highway 15 (bypasses the market south as a four-lane expressway) and the federal highway 299 (runs through Piflas and the industrial area in the west of Ergolding). In the north, the state road St 2143 (built in the late 1980s) touches Ergolding as a northern bypass and connects the northern districts of Kopfham, Unterglaim, Kaufelkofen, Oberglaim etc. The LA 26 district road bypasses Ergolding in the east and connects to the St 2143 and the A 92 at Altheim (AS Landshut / Essenbach). With the " Osttangente Landshut ", which has been under discussion for more than a decade, an additional Isar crossing into the southern part of the district is to be created. Their needs are currently being clarified with a traffic report from the Free State of Bavaria.
