Eastern Bavaria

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

With Eastern Bavaria are since the post-war period , the Bavarian administrative districts of Lower Bavaria (seat of government Landshut and) Upper Palatinate (seat of government: Regensburg ) indicates that in the Czech Republic and Austria border. The term is a new word from the early post-war period in order to be able to market the region under one roof.

District of Lower Bavaria-Upper Palatinate

As part of the austerity measures decided in 1931, the districts of Lower Bavaria and Upper Palatinate were merged. Regensburg became the administrative seat. In 1948 the two districts were restored as independent administrative units. However, the separation was not fully completed until 1956, when the government of Lower Bavaria moved from Regensburg to Landshut. Even after the separation of the two administrative districts, there are still institutions whose responsibilities extend over the territory of both administrative districts, such as the Regensburg Administrative Court , the Lower Bavaria-Upper Palatinate Chamber of Crafts , the subsidiaries of DB Regio AG and Regionalbus Ostbayern , the Ostbayern regional studio of the Bavarian Radio and the Ostbayern Tourist Association .

Bavarian East Mark

The Gau Bayerische Ostmark , created by the National Socialists on the initiative of Hans Schemm in 1933, encompassed Lower Bavaria and Upper Palatinate as well as northern Bavarian Upper Franconia . The district capital was Bayreuth . The Bavarian Ostmarkstrasse from Upper Franconia to Passau was built as the main connecting axis of this Gau . In 1942 the Gau was named "Gau Bayreuth".

East Bavarian Technical University

As a result of successful participation in the competition for the title " Technical University " among the Bavarian universities of applied sciences, the University of Amberg-Weiden and the University of Regensburg have been able to call themselves "Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule" (OTH) since 2013 . The Bavarian State Ministry for Science, Research and Art honored the joint application of the two universities under the "umbrella brand" Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule. The OTH Amberg-Weiden and the OTH Regensburg are entitled to use the title individually and in association on the basis of a cooperation agreement. Only five other universities in Bavaria are allowed to call themselves "Technical University".

criticism

The term "East Bavaria" is criticized again and again because the counterpart "West Bavaria" does not generally exist. However, it has already been proposed to rename the Bavarian district of Swabia to demarcate it from the historical Swabian part in the state of Baden-Württemberg in "West Bavaria".
