Overlap with Eastern Bavaria

The Upper Palatinate is combined with Lower Bavaria to form the Eastern Bavaria region , which can be traced back to historical reasons - in the post-war period, both districts were administered jointly. The assignment of the Upper Palatinate to Eastern Bavaria is increasingly taking a back seat to that of Northern Bavaria. One important reason is the economic alignment of the northern and western Upper Palatinate with the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region . In addition, public and semi-public initiatives are increasingly based on the north-south scheme, so that the term Eastern Bavaria is used less and less. More recent examples are the North Bavaria Energy Agency or the North Bavaria Network. On the other hand, the OTH Amberg-Weiden and the OTH Regensburg have been calling each other " Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule " since 2013 .
