Altheim ( Bavarian : Oidham ) is a district and a district of the Essenbach market in the Lower Bavarian district of Landshut . Until 1971 it formed an independent municipality, to which, in addition to the municipality capital and parish village Altheim, the hamlets of Duniwang , Holzen and Oberholzen as well as the wastes Koislhof and Lengermühle belonged. The municipality had an area of 1426.54 hectares .

location

Altheim is a parish village in the lower Isar valley near Landshut . It is located around two kilometers southwest of Essenbach and eight kilometers northeast of Landshut.

The place is very conveniently located on several important axes: the federal highway 15 , which connects Landshut with Regensburg , leads directly past Altheim. The federal highway 92 connects with the junction Landshut / Essenbach directly to the B 15 near Altheim. The motorway divides Altheim into the northern core town, mostly with residential developments, and the southern industrial area with only a few residential buildings. The four-lane federal highway 15n up to the A 92 should be completed around 2019 and connected to it with a motorway junction about two kilometers east of Altheim .

history

A culture from the Neolithic Age was given the name Altheim culture because of the special kind of ceramics found here . A Roman settlement can also be proven according to archaeological finds for the area around Altheim. During the earliest Middle Ages, even before the Bavarian immigration in the 6th century, there was a settlement in Altheim.

When Altheim was mentioned in the year 883, the place had at least one church and therefore also a clergyman whose rank corresponded to that of a pastor. Since a diocesan border ran through the town, Altheim had two churches of equal rank around the year 1000, namely St. Andreas of the Diocese of Regensburg and St. Peter of the Diocese of Freising . Thanks to a donation from the royal court in Landshut , the extension to the parish church of St. Peter was completed in 1456.

At the beginning of the 19th century Altheim became an independent political municipality. As early as 1869, at the suggestion of the Altheim district office, Mirskofen and Ergolding were to be merged to form a mayor's office, but the merger failed because of the great distances that could not be overcome at the time and the general distrust of the population.

The distrust of the neighboring Essenbach seems to have been even greater than that of Mirskofen and Ergolding. In his book Der Brunnkorb , Max Peinkofer reports , referring to the Deggendorf school councilor Johann Baptist Prößl, of an unusual weather blessing that was recited every summer Sunday after Sunday around the middle of the 19th century. Whenever the pastor of Altheim donated the weather blessing, the schoolmaster and organist sang:

"Shine, Sunnerl shine
to the Altheimer Gmein,
on the Essenbacher,
on the Essenbacher! "

A corresponding counter-song was sung in Essenbach. The reasons for the conflict between the two neighboring villages that can be identified from this text were unknown to Peinkofer and his informant.

On April 1, 1971, it came under the administrative reform on the voluntary association of municipalities Altheim, Essenbach and Mirskofen the new municipality Essenbach. A few years later, Oberwattenbach (July 1, 1972), Mettenbach and Ohu (both May 1, 1978) were added. On January 1, 2014, the Altheim district had 1,761 inhabitants.
