The Ergolding grammar school in Ergolding is one of three grammar schools in the Landshut district . It has a scientific-technological (NTG) and an economic (WSG-W) branch. It is one of the most modern high schools in Bavaria . During the construction, special care was taken to ensure energy-efficient heating, intelligent ventilation and modern LED lighting technology. About 80 percent of it is heated with geothermal energy . In the 2015/2016 school year, it reached half of its capacity with 416 children and entered the middle school with the eighth grade. The total number of students rose to 520 in the 2016/17 school year, of which 301 were boys and 219 were girls. For the 2017/2018 school year, the number of students rose to 631. The new registrations for the 2019/2020 school year were 102. The 2019/2020 school year saw the first graduation class.

history

On February 2, 2009, the district council decided against building a new grammar school and withdrew an application from the Ministry of Education and Finance that had been approved a year earlier . It was argued that there was no need due to the falling number of students. In contrast, resistance formed in the population. A citizens' initiative (“Pro Gymnasium”) collected the signatures for a referendum . This was held on June 7, 2009, parallel to the 2009 European elections . A majority were in favor of a new grammar school. The district council followed the vote of the citizens and submitted a new application to the Ministry of Education and Finance, which was approved on October 1, 2009. In 2010 the Bavarian Ministry of Education and Culture emphasized the need for the grammar school, which is currently being planned, with the number of transfers to this type of school increasing since 2002.

On December 21, 2009, the district council voted for Essenbach as the location with a narrow majority. However, the Bavarian Ministry of Culture rejected it. With 51: 8 votes, the decision was made in July 2010 to go to Ergolding. An approximately 30,000 square meter plot of land on Ergomar hit the headlines because of a 110 kV high voltage line . In March 2011, the district council decided on an alternative location between the Special Education Center (SFZ) and the B15.

In mid-January 2011, the building construction committee of the district council reduced the number of applicants for the planning of the new grammar school from 21 to eight architectural offices and a project group consisting of six district councilors, representatives of the district administration and the district administrator for the award procedure of the individual trades was formed. A preliminary draft plan was presented to the district council in May by the commissioned ARGE Behnisch Architekten - architectural office Leinhäupl und Neuber (Munich / Landshut) and the landscape architect Brenner. The permit for an all-day school was now also available. BPM Bau- und Projektmanagement Hartl GmbH took over the project control. At the beginning of November, the Lower Bavaria government gave its approval to the early start of the measures.

The groundbreaking ceremony on November 30, 2011 was followed by the topping-out ceremony in April 2012. The Austrian cabaret artist Walter Martetschläger gave the topping-out speech: “For the whole district is a G'winn, the new gym in Ergolding.” With the publication of the tender documents on November 2, 2012, the interior expansion and the construction of the outdoor facilities began. The construction was completed in a record time of 18 months. The construction costs of the Ergolding grammar school amounted to 32 million euros. Funding from the Free State of Bavaria was 10.4 million euros (8.8 million for general school operations and 1.635 million euros for all-day care); the market town of Ergolding contributed the property free of charge.

One of the challenges was the integration of the grammar school in the local public transport (ÖPNV). This also includes the construction of mobile pushbutton traffic lights for the 2013/2014 school year at the intersection of Industriestraße (Kreisstraße LA 52) with Bauhofstraße and Am Sportpark street to increase school route safety.

By the deadline of the registration process, 132 students had registered for the fifth and a further 60 for the sixth grades. School operations started on September 12th with five fifth and three sixth grades. It was originally planned to introduce the seventh grade, but there weren't enough registrations for this. In parallel to the planning and construction, preliminary classes were formed at the Hans-Leinberger-Gymnasium in Landshut. After initially slow registrations with 27 students until mid-May 2010, there were then a total of 50 students for the precursor classes to the sixth grade alone. The first information event for parents took place on January 30, 2013. The official inauguration was on November 8, 2013.

Location and architecture

The school building is located right next to a landscape conservation area and is only separated by a strip of green in the immediate vicinity of the Special Education Center (SFZ). With green roofs, the system is integrated into this ensemble. The school faces north so that the classrooms are evenly flooded with daylight. A sophisticated lighting technology with light deflection systems diverts the light from the south facade into the classrooms and, together with three skylights on the upper floor, ensures that no artificial light is normally required. The rest of the lighting is 100 percent LED lighting. Visitors coming from the north, east and west enter the building at a central point. The central unit here is the foyer, which takes on various functions: access to the school, break hall, general lounge area, event location and starting point for the stairwells and corridors that open up the school building. The atrium is flooded with light. The individual class wings frame it with an open gallery. There is space for around 1400 people standing or around 400 people sitting in the auditorium, which is spread over three floors. The cafeteria , an administration wing and the library are located on the ground floor . There is also access to the sports hall and the rooms for music education. The corridors, in turn, are designed in such a way that they not only allow access to the classrooms, but also provide space for encounters. In addition to its spatial functions, the auditorium also has an important function for building technology. The exhaust air is led through the corridors to the auditorium and extracted there. The classrooms are ventilated via a hybrid system. The air blown into the classrooms displaces the exhaust air, which is then discharged through the corridors. The primary energy requirement is only 104.7 kWh / m²a. This falls below the requirements of the Energy Saving Ordinance for Buildings (EnEV 2009) by 37%.

After the ARGE architects had already been awarded the WAN Color Architecture Award 2014 for their concept for the color scheme of the building at the end of 2015, they received from the Bavarian State Association of the Association of German Architects (BDA) for "astonishing staircases, rooms and plays of color, where architectural waste and baroque diversity is possible ” the “ BDA Prize Bavaria ” in the category “ Building for the community ” .

layout

800 students have space in the high school. It is the only one of the district's three grammar schools to offer an economics branch. As a further unique selling point, it also has a bound all-day school and offers the open all-day school. The grammar school has four classes. Only in the opening school year 2013/2014 did it start with five fifth and three sixth grades, which were attended by 203 students.

It has 24 classrooms, eight course rooms and four multipurpose rooms. There are also various function rooms such as B. a library or a parents' consultation room. It also has an integrated double sports hall as well as a large and a small all-weather pitch.

The equipment is state-of-the-art. B. no more traditional chalkboards . The classrooms are equipped with so-called interactive whiteboards , which enable the integration of digital media into the classroom. This means that the Ergolding grammar school is currently one of the most modern in Bavaria.

This pilot project with supraregional importance will be joined by other schools and grammar schools from all administrative districts of Bavaria in the 2013/2014 school year.
