history

The government of Lower Bavaria came into being with the reorganization of Bavaria in 1808 as the Royal General Commissiariat of the Lower Danube District , based in Passau . During the territorial reform initiated by King Ludwig I in 1837, the Lower Danube District was renamed Lower Bavaria; Landshut, Vilsbiburg, Kelheim, Abensberg and Mallersdorf / Pfaffenberg were assigned to the Lower Bavaria district. On July 16, 1838, the seat of the government was relocated from Lower Bavaria to Landshut due to the “highest resolution”, and the former Dominican monastery became the new office building .

In 1931 the government of Lower Bavaria was dissolved due to austerity measures and merged with the government of the Upper Palatinate, based in Regensburg . After the end of the Second World War, the independent "districts" of Lower Bavaria and Upper Palatinate were restored by law of April 20, 1948 , but it was not until 1957 that the government of Lower Bavaria moved back into the renovated former Dominican monastery in Landshut.
