Pornainen [ ˈpɔrnɑi̯nɛn ] ( Swedish. Borgnäs ) is a municipality in southern Finland with 5068 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018). It is located in the Uusimaa region, 20 km northwest of Porvoo and 40 km northeast of the capital Helsinki . The community is monolingual in Finnish .

The center of Pornainen is called Kirveskoski. In addition, the municipal area includes the settlements Halkia, Hevonselkä, Kupsenkylä, Laha, Laukkoski and Metsäkylä. The church in Kirveskoski was built in 1726. According to tradition, the church should not have had a bell after its completion, because after the Great Northern War (1700–1721) there was no money. As a result, the women of the community are said to have woven sheets together, which were then sold in Stockholm . The money raised is said to have financed the purchase of a church bell. The coat of arms of Pornainen refers to this incident and shows a church bell and two spindles.

The Mustijoki River flows through Pornainen . There are ten rapids in the municipality , the largest of which is a 12 meter high rapids in the village of Halkia. The writer Mika Waltari owned a villa in Laukkakoski, where he wrote most of his books.
