Myrskylä [ ˈmyrskylæ ] ( Swedish Mörskom ) is a municipality in southern Finland with 1922 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018). It is in the countryside Uusimaa (until 31 December 2010 in the landscape Eastern Uusimaa ), about 30 km north of Porvoo and 75 km northeast of the capital Helsinki . 11% of the population are Finland-Swedes , officially the municipality is bilingual with Finnish as the majority and Swedish as the minority language.
In addition to the center of the village, the municipality includes the villages of Hallila, Hyövinkylä, Jaakkola, Kankkila, Koukjärvi, Kreivilä, Kylmäsuo, Muttila, Myllykylä, Paavola, Pakila and Sopajärvi.
Myrskylä municipality has existed since 1636 when it was separated from the neighboring municipality of Pernå .
Myrskylä is the birthplace of long-distance runner and four-time Olympic champion Lasse Virén . Virén later became a member of parliament and is still living in Myrskylä.
