Lapinjärvi [ ˈlɑpinjærvi ] ( Swedish : Lappträsk ) is a municipality in southern Finland with 2665 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018). It is located in the Uusimaa landscape (until December 31, 2010 in the Ostuusimaa landscape) about 40 kilometers northeast of Porvoo and 90 kilometers northeast of the capital Helsinki . 33 percent of the population are Finland-Swedes , officially the municipality is bilingual with Finnish as the majority and Swedish as the minority language.

Lapinjärvi is located on State Road 6 from Pernå to Kajaani in northern Finland . The community is very rural, and the food and wood industries also employ workers. The largest companies based in Lapinjärvi are a dairy and a lumber producer. There is also a training center in the municipality where all Finnish community service workers are trained.

The largest settlement center of the municipality is the parish of Lapinjärvi (Finnish Kirkkokylä , Swedish Kappelby ) with 781 inhabitants (December 31, 2005). There are two wooden churches , the Swedish and the Finnish, side by side. Both burned down after a lightning strike in 1742 and were rebuilt two years later. Apart from the parish village, the Lapinjärvi municipality includes the villages of Porlammi (Porlom, 575 inhabitants), Pukaro (Pockar, 313 inhabitants), Heikinkylä (Hindersby, 257 inhabitants), Lindkoski (223 inhabitants), Ingermaninkylä (Ingermansby, 206 inhabitants), Kimonkylä (Kimoböle , 160 inhabitants), Vasarankylä (Norrby, 144 inhabitants), Rutumi (Rudom, 73 inhabitants), Pekinkylä (Bäckby, 72 inhabitants), Lapinkylä (Labby, 57 inhabitants) and Harsböle (49 inhabitants).

Most of the Finnish, German , Polish and Swiss children's and youth series A Backpack Full of Adventure was filmed in Lapinjärvi in ​​1992 .
