The Finnish state road 6 ( Finnish. Valtatie 6 , Swedish. Riksväg 6 ) leads from Forsby near Loviisa to Kajaani . Its length is 604 kilometers. Along with State Road 5 , it is the most important north-south connection in Eastern Finland.
Route
State road 6 branches off from state road 7 in the village of Forsby (Koskenkylä) near Loviisa and runs in a wide arc roughly parallel to the Finnish-Russian border northwards via Kouvola , Lappeenranta , Imatra and Joensuu to Kajaani. It is mostly two-lane. The bypasses of Lappeenranta, Joutseno and Imatra are four lanes , while those of Imatra are also being developed as a motorway .
State road 6 goes through the following municipalities: Loviisa - Lapinjärvi - Kouvola - Luumäki - Lappeenranta - Imatra - Ruokolahti - Rautjärvi - Parikkala - Kitee - Tohmajärvi - Joensuu - Kontiolahti - Juuka - Nurmes - Valtimo - Sotkamo - Kajaani .
