The Finnish State Road 1 ( Finnish. Valtatie 1 , Swedish. Riksväg 1 ) leads from the capital Helsinki to the southwestern Finnish city of Turku . Its length is 166 kilometers, which has been completely developed as a motorway .

The 1 starts in Helsinki, northwest of the center in Munkkiniemi and after a short distance reaches the neighboring city of Espoo. The section from Helsinki to Ring III was completed in 1962 as Finland's first motorway.

In Espoo she crosses Ring I ( 101 ), Ring II ( 102 ) and Ring III ( 50 ). From the latter intersection, it is combined with the E 18 coming from Saint Petersburg, Russia , which will go around Helsinki as part of the 50 .  

In the further course the place Veikkola is reached, which in 2009 reached 5,000 inhabitants as a fast growing satellite town. It belongs to the municipality of the distant, 20 kilometers further south, Kirkkonummi . To the north of the village is the Nuuksio National Park .

In the area of ​​the settlement Palojärvi on the lake of the same name, the road leads a few kilometers through the municipality of Vihti . There is no exit here, but there is a motorway triangle in which the 2 , which was newly built here, has branched off from it since the 1970s .

In Lohja she runs a few kilometers together with the 25 . After that, the newest section of the motorway, which opened in 2009, begins. It begins with five tunnels in a row, including the 2.2 kilometer long Karnaisten tietunneli , the second longest road tunnel in Finland. The area from the exits from Saukkola to the intersection with the secondary road 104 belongs to the former municipality of Nummi-Pusula , which has been part of Lohja since 2013. The Uusimaa landscape , through which the 1 has led since Helsinki, also ends here .

Salo belongs to the Varsinais-Suomi landscape, through which the 1 leads from here. Thesection opened in 2009 endsin Muurla , after which the 1 corresponds to theSalo bypass road from the 1970s. This is followed by the junction with the 52 , which runs parallel to the Uskelanjoki Riverinto the center of Salo.

In Paimio , the 181 is crossed, which runs parallel to the Paimionjoki River.

In Kaarina is 40 crossed. This is the ring road around Turku, the E 18 separates from the 1 and leads with the 40 north around Turku to the ferry port in the direction of Sweden.
