Finnish road sign 665a: "Regional road number"
Regional road 733

Seututiet ( German  regional roads ) are routes in the Finnish road network that serve the traffic of the subregions and connect them with the state and main roads. The traffic significance is thus smaller than the state and main roads, but larger than the secondary roads. 100 to 999 in the road number system are reserved for these regional traffic routes. The numbers of the traffic signs are marked with black numbers on a white background.

Some of the regional roads run parallel to the state roads and are usually older routes of the current “Autobahn” between the same places. They serve as substitute routes and offer an alternative for the slower traffic.

The Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communication determines which roads are regional roads. At the beginning of 2014 there were 13,609 kilometers of regional roads in Finland. Around 35 percent of the regional roads are paved, around 62 percent paved and 3 percent gravel roads . Only less than one percent of the regional roads are expressways such as regional road 101 or ring road I.
