State road 21

The Finnish state road 21 ( Finnish. Valtatie 21 , Swedish. Riksväg 21 ) leads from Tornio to Kilpisjärvi on the Norwegian border. Its length is 459 kilometers. On the Swedish side, Riksväg 99 runs largely parallel.

Route

State road 21 in the north of Enontekiö

State road 21 begins in the port town of Tornio in the south of the province of Lapland and runs north along the Swedish border, which is formed by the Tornionjoki and Muonionjoki rivers . It ends at the border crossing to Norway near the village of Kilpisjärvi in Enontekiö municipality . The European road 8 follows the course of the state road 21. The road is only two lanes in its entire course and especially in the northern part in a bad condition, however the traffic volume is also very low.

State road 21 passes through the following municipalities: Tornio - Ylitornio - Pello - Kolari - Muonio - Enontekiö .

The road forms part of the of Tromsø according Turku leading road number 8 .
