State Road 29 (Finland)
The Finnish state road 29 ( Finnish. Valtatie 29 , Swedish. Riksväg 29 ) leads from Keminmaa to Tornio . With a length of only 16 kilometers, it is the shortest state road in Finland. Most of the state road 29 is developed like a motorway under the name Perämerentie , which is why it is considered the northernmost motorway in the world.
Route
State road 29 runs parallel to the coast at the northern end of the Gulf of Bothnia . In the municipality of Keminmaa near the port city of Kemi, it branches off from state road 4 , which runs in north-south direction, and heads west to Tornio on the Swedish border. State road 21 , which runs north along the Swedish border , branches off from state road 29 in Tornio . The short stretch between the junction of State Road 21 and the Swedish border is part of European Route 4 , which continues on the Swedish side. On the remaining part of the route, Europastraße 8 follows the course of State Road 29.
