The Nuuksio National Park ( Finnish. Nuuksion kansallispuisto , Swedish. Noux national park ) is one of 40 national parks in Finland .
location
The national park is located northwest of the capital Helsinki in the area of the municipalities Espoo , Kirkkonummi and Vihti . Its name is derived from Nuuksio , a district of Espoos.
The park was founded in 1994. It was gradually expanded and covered 45 km² on June 1, 2006 and 55 km² in 2016. The terrain is characterized by steep cliffs , forests , moors and lakes ; there are over 80 lakes and ponds in the park.
Flora and fauna
The park lies in the border area of two vegetation zones : the deciduous and mixed coniferous forests and the boreal coniferous forest . The dominant tree species are spruce and pine, some of which grow on swampy terrain. Due to the many years of forestry use, the forest is mostly young.
The park's hallmark is the European flying squirrel , as there is a large population of this rare species here. Dozens of other endangered and threatened species of animals, plants and fungi also live in the park, e.g. B. the goat milker and the woodlark .
tourism
From Helsinki and Espoo, the park can be easily reached by public transport . Bus routes 245 from Espoon keskus to Nuuksionpää and Kattila (only in summer) run daily. There are six marked circular hiking trails between 2 and 7.2 km in length, one of which is wheelchair accessible. There are also places and paths for grilling, camping, skiing and picking berries and mushrooms. There are also cabins for rent.
