The vegetation of the islands is very varied: partly it consists only of lichens on barren beach rocks, partly of lush grove forests . Because of Schwendberg building , which was operated until the 1930s in the area, the forests are rather young. They are characterized by their large variety of tree species: birch , aspen , linden , gray alder , pine , spruce , rowan tree and willow can be found in the same grove . In 1993, in the area around the old cottage of Linnansaari, traditional methods of swiveling were resumed in order to preserve the landscape of the Schwendenwald. Rare orchid species such as the leafless ram , the avian avian and the broad-leaved stendellum also grow in the forests .

tourism

There are several hiking trails on the main island of Linnansaari, as well as a lookout point on the Linnanvuori rock. In summer there are boat connections to the island from Porosalmi in Rantasalmi and Oravi in Savonlinna. The information center of the national park, the “Oskari Nature Center”, is located in the community center of Rantasalmi.
