Espoon keskus ( Swedish Esbo centrum ) is a district of the Finnish city of Espoo . It has about 19,000 inhabitants and belongs to the municipality (Finnish: suuralue ) Vanha-Espoo .

Literally translated the name means "center of Espoo". The district is located in the approximate geographical center of Espoo at the point where a village called Espoo / Esbo was already in the Middle Ages. The district houses the most important administrative buildings and the only railway station in the city, which is also served by long-distance trains, but it is not actually an inner city (as part of the " capital region ", the agglomeration around Helsinki , Espoo does not clearly have its own inner city). In fact, Espoon keskus is on the outskirts of the urbanized area, as the denser development in Espoo is concentrated in the southern part of the urban area that is closest to Helsinki, while the northern part is rural.

The area got its current name in the 1970s when Espoo was given the rank of city and the administrative buildings were built. Most of the rest of the building also comes from this or more recent times. Espoon keskus is also home to the oldest preserved building in the city, the medieval cathedral of Espoo .
