Tapiola [ ˈtɑpiɔlɑ ] ( Swedish Hagalund ) is a district of the Finnish city of Espoo and is located in the urban district (Finnish suuralue ) Suur-Tapiola .
Tapiola was largely built in the 1960s and was designed as a garden city . The residential areas of the district consist of widely spaced houses scattered in the forest. This is also indicated by the name of the district: It is derived from Tapio , the god of the forest from Finnish mythology .
Tapiola is home to the Espoo Cultural Center and the Espoo Metro Areena , the ice rink of the Espoo Blues ice hockey team .
Residential houses outside the center, architect: Viljo Revell
