Viljo Revell

Viljo Gabriel Revell (born January 25, 1910 in Vaasa ; † November 8, 1964 in Helsinki ) was a Finnish architect who was a representative of functionalism . Revell became internationally known for his design for the New City Hall of Toronto . He was one of the leading Finnish architects of the 20th century.

Reval passed his secondary school leaving certificate in Vaasan Lyseo in 1928. In 1936 he assisted Alvar Aalto in building the Finnish pavilion for the World Exhibition in Paris. He completed his architecture studies in 1937 at the Helsinki University of Technology . He married Maire Myntti in 1941, with whom he had three daughters. During the Second World War in September 1941, he survived a mine explosion as a lieutenant on the coastal armored ship Ilmarinen , which led to the ship's sinking.
