Muurla [ ˈmuːrlɑ ] is a former municipality in southwestern Finland . In early 2009 it was incorporated into the city of Salo .

Muurla is located in the Varsinais-Suomi countryside, 12 km east of Salo city ​​center . The motorway-like state road 1 from Turku (63 km west) to the capital Helsinki (102 km east) runs through Muurla. The municipality of Muurla had an area of ​​82.05 km². Steep cliffs and the fertile plains in between, which are used for agriculture, are typical of the landscape in the former municipal area. There are seven lakes in the municipality of Muurla. In addition to the community center, the villages of Harjula, Ilola, Järvi, Kaukelmaa, Kaukola, Kistola, Koski, Pullola, Pyöli, Ranta, Ruotsala, Suoloppi, Vähä-Pullola and Äijälä belonged to Muurla. The last population of the municipality was 1,562. The municipality of Muurla was monolingual in Finnish .

Muurla is known for its glass factory, whose factory outlet attracts numerous tourists. Other sights are the wooden church from 1836, the local museum of Muurla, the mill of Fiulmaakari, a Bronze Age grave and the studio of the painter Viljo Hurme .

Muurla was dissolved from Uskela as an independent municipality in 1919 . At the beginning of 2009, the community was incorporated into Salo along with Halikko , Kiikala , Kisko , Kuusjoki , Perniö , Pertteli , Särkisalo and Suomusjärvi .
