Suomusjärvi [ ˈsuɔmusjærvi ] is a former municipality in southwest Finland . In early 2009 it was incorporated into the city of Salo .

Suomusjärvi is located in the east of the Varsinais-Suomi countryside, 26 km east of the city center of Salo on State Road 1 , halfway between the capital Helsinki (92 km east) and Turku (87 km west). The municipality of Suomusjörvi had an area of ​​176.48 km² (of which 17.19 km² inland water). Besides the eponymous Kirchdorf belonged to the municipality of the villages Ahtiala, Arpalahti, Häntälä, Jintsala, Kettula, Kitula, Korla, Lahnajärvi, Laidike, Laperla, Lemula, Rautsuo, Salittu, Salmi and Taipale. The last population was 1,330. The community was monolingual in Finnish .

According to archaeological finds in Suomusjärvi, the Suomusjärvi culture , a Stone Age culture that dates back to the 9th to 6th millennium BC, was preserved. Prevailed in Finland, their name.

The wooden church designed by EB Lohrmann in the community center of Suomusjärvi was built between 1847 and 1849, the separate church tower dates from 1750 and is still from the previous building from 1703.

The community of Suomusjärvi went back to a chapel community founded in 1678 called Laidikka or Loidikkaa. This was subordinate to the parish Kisko . In 1698 the chapel was moved to the village of Suomusjärvi. Suomusjärvi has existed as an independent political municipality since 1898. At the beginning of 2009, the municipality was incorporated into Salo along with Halikko , Kiikala , Kisko, Kuusjoki , Muurla , Perniö , Pertteli and Särkisalo .
