Risto Nuuros

Risto Nuuros (born December 26, 1950 in Suomusjärvi , Varsinais-Suomi region ) is a former Finnish orienteer .

Nuuros won three silver and one bronze medal at world championships between 1974 and 1979. At his first World Championships in Czechoslovakia in 1972, Nuuros was seventh in the individual race. In 1973, in the Norwegian Stord , he was Nordic champion in the Finnish relay with Simo Nurminen , Tuomo Peltola and Seppo Väli-Klemelä . In Denmark the following year the World Championships took place, in which Nuuros remained in the individual run as fourth in the victory of the Swede Bernt Frilén without a medal. The Finnish relay with Hannu Mäkiranta , Markku Salminen , Risto Nuuros and Seppo Väli-Klemelä won silver behind Sweden. In 1975 he was third at the Nordic Championships behind Frilén and Mäkiranta, and in 1976 in Aviemore again fourth in the World Championship.

Nuuros won an individual World Cup medal in 1978 in Kongsberg when he finished second behind the Norwegian defending champion Egil Johansen . With the season he reached the third place. The next year the next world championships took place in Tampere, Finland , as the world championships were to take place in the odd years. Nuuros was seventh in the individual again and won the silver medal in the relay with Seppo Keskinarkaus , Hannu Kottonen and Ari Anjala .

The farmer Nuuros started for the club Suomusjärven Sisu , with which he also took part in the Jukola relay race, but without reaching any of the top positions. From 1974 he was trained by Jukka Kalliokoski, who was also the trainer Outi Borgenströms , who became individual world champion in 1979.

Nuuros was Finnish champion in 1973 in the long distance and in 1977 in the ultra long distance.
