Särkisalo [ ˈsærkisɑlɔ ] ( Swedish Finby [ ˈfɪnbyː ]) is a former municipality in the archipelago off the coast of southwestern Finland. In early 2009 it was incorporated into the city of Salo .

Särkisalo is located in the Varsinais-Suomi countryside around 30 km south of Salo city center and 100 km from Turku . The municipality of Särkisalo had an area of 152.32 km² (excluding the marine areas 82.79 km²). Part of the former municipal area is on the mainland, but the majority is taken up by the archipelago. The church village of Särkisalo is located on the 22 km² island of Isoluoto (Swedish Storö ), which is directly in front of the mainland and can be reached via a bridge. There are also the villages of Bastböle, Förby, Musko, Norrby and Vähämaa on the largest island in the municipality. South of Isoluoto are two other larger islands, Ulkoluoto (Swedish Utö ) with the villages of Tessvär, Siksala and Söderby as well as Pettu. Ulkoluoto and Pettu can both be reached by ferry. On the mainland there are the villages Falkberg, Finnari, Hästö, Heikberg, Kaukassalo (Swedish: Kolsjö ), Seppälänmäki, Taamarla and Verkkoranta.

The municipality of Särkisalo last had 742 inhabitants, around a tenth of them Finland-Swedes . Officially, the community was bilingual with Finnish as the majority and Swedish as the minority language. Särkisalo lost its bilingual status when it was incorporated into Salo.

The archipelago landscape and the opportunities for fishing - the area's waters are known for large pike - make Särkisalo a popular destination for holidaymakers: in summer, tourism triples the number of inhabitants in the former municipality. Sights in Särkisalo are the wooden church from 1760, the fishing village Niksaari and an Iron Age burial mound on the rock Puosinkallio.

The first documented mention of Särkisalo comes from the year 1329. In 1868 Särkisalo was dissolved as an independent municipality from Perniö . Originally it only had the Swedish name Finby, it was not until 1930 that the Finnish name Särkisalo was created on the basis of medieval documents. At the beginning of 2009 Särkisalo was incorporated into Salo together with the eight municipalities Halikko , Kiikala , Kisko , Kuusjoki , Muurla , Perniö, Pertteli , and Suomusjärvi .
