Joutseno
Joutseno [ ˈjɔu̯tsɛnɔ ] is a former town in South Karelia in southeastern Finland with just under 11,000 inhabitants. At the beginning of 2009 it was incorporated into Lappeenranta .
The distance to Helsinki in the west, as well as to Saint Petersburg in the east, is approximately 250 kilometers. Joutseno is at 73 m. ü. M.
This area on the southern edge of Lake Saimaa was settled 6000 years ago. In 1639 it became an independent municipality, from 2005 it was allowed to call itself a city. Before it was incorporated into Lappeenranta, the municipal area was 498.4 km² (of which land: 310.7 km²). With a population of 10,890 on July 31, 2006, this resulted in a population density of 35.0 inhabitants per km². The municipality of Joutseno bordered on Russia over a distance of 9 km.
Joutseno is known for its paper, sawmill, chemical, plastic and steel industries, whose products are exported worldwide.
The city is on State Road 6 , which takes 3 hours from Helsinki , just as long as it is by train. Joutseno can also be reached by sea. The nearest airport is Lappeenranta Airport, about 20 minutes away .
In summer, the main attractions are the local historical museum, the church and the South Karelian motor museum. This natural area offers families not only the 260 kilometers of beach but also the local Korpikeidas zoo, where you can fish all year round.
In winter, the Myllymäki ski slopes offer every opportunity for a wide variety of sporting activities.
