South Karelia ( Finnish. Etelä-Karjala , Swedish. Södra Karelen ) is a landscape in Finland . As part of the historical Karelia region divided between Finland and Russia , today's South Karelia historically belonged to the Viipuri Province . After the Second World War it became the province of Kymi , founded in 1945 , from 1997 until the dissolution of the provinces in 2009 it belonged to the Province of Southern Finland .
