Askola [ ˈɑskɔlɑ ] is a municipality with 4958 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018) in southern Finland. It is located on the lower reaches of the Porvoonjoki River in the coastal hinterland immediately north of the port city of Porvoo . In contrast to Porvoo, Askola is monolingual Finnish .

The largest towns in the municipality, which was founded in 1896, are the namesake Askola and Monninkylä. The municipality also includes the villages of Huuvari, Juornaankylä, Korttia, Nalkkila, Nietoo, Puhar-Onkimaa, Särkijärvi, Tiilää, Vahijärvi and Vakkola.

history
Not far from Askola was around 7500 BC. Quartz rock mined in a quarry by the people of the Askola culture .
Attractions
The wooden church , built between 1797 and 1799, is well worth seeing. It contains a richly decorated baroque pulpit , which was brought here from a German church by Finnish mercenaries during the Thirty Years' War.
About seven kilometers north of Askola is Askolan hiidenkirnut , an area with significant glacial potholes .
