Christian Titz [ ti: ts ] (born April 1, 1971 in Mannheim ) is a former soccer player and today's coach as well as non-fiction author .

During his active career he played in the regional league for SC 07 Idar-Oberstein before starting a coaching career. From 2000 to 2006 and 2009 he coached various clubs in the youth field as well as in amateur football and in the meantime worked for the US American Football Association. From 2011 to 2014 Titz coached FC 08 Homburg in the Regionalliga Südwest before joining Hamburger SV in 2015, where he initially took over the U17 and later the reserve team (U21). He was then head coach of the professional team from March 13, 2018 to September 23, 2018. For the 2019/20 season he took over the regional division Rot-Weiss Essen .

Career

As a player

Titz was a youth player at FC Viktoria Neckarhausen and then at SV Sandhausen . In the men's area, he played for Neckarhausen, SG Egelsbach , SV Waldhof Mannheim and SC 07 Idar-Oberstein , for whom he played six times in the third-class Regionalliga West / Südwest in the 1999/2000 season .

As a trainer

Beginnings

For the 2000/01 season Titz took over the A-youth (U19) from Alemannia Aachen , which he coached for four years. In December 2004, Titz acquired the football instructor license . In November 2005 he took over the Bayern league club 1. FC Passau , but could not prevent relegation to the regional league and had to leave the club in August 2006. He built a scouting network in Europe for the American Football Association .

For the 2009/10 season, Titz took over the first team playing in the fifth-class Mittelrheinliga as well as the A-youth (U19) of SCB Viktoria Köln playing in the A-Junioren-Bundesliga . At the end of December 2009 he was released from his duties.

For the 2011/12 season Titz took over the FC 08 Homburg team playing in the fifth-class Oberliga Südwest and won the championship with it. In the subsequent seasons 2012/13 (14th) and 2013/14 (11th) he was able to establish the team in the fourth-class Regionalliga Südwest . In April 2014 Titz left the club.

Hamburger SV

From the 2015/16 season onwards, Titz looked after the B1 juniors (U17) of Hamburger SV playing in the B-Junioren-Bundesliga for two seasons. For the season 2017/18 he took over in the fourth division Regionalliga Nord An incoming second team (U21). With 40 points from 17 games, the U21 became autumn champions .

On March 13, 2018, Titz gave up the U21s after 20 games and 45 points in first place in the table and initially took over the Bundesliga team of HSV from Bernd Hollerbach until the end of the 2017/18 season , which after 26 match days was seven points behind the relegation place in 17th place in the table. With ten points from seven games, HSV under Titz was able to reduce the gap to the relegation place to two points before the last game day. Despite a win on the last match day, HSV was relegated from the Bundesliga for the first time on May 12, 2018. Even before the last match day, Titz and the club agreed on a league-independent collaboration beyond the end of the season. Due to the increase in performance and the style of play and the regular incorporation of young players like Tatsuya Itō or Matti Steinmann , who had started the season in the second team, Titz received a lot of praise. On May 16, 2018, Titz signed a new contract with a term until June 30, 2020. HSV lost the opening game in the 2nd Bundesliga at home 3-0 against Holstein Kiel . After four wins from the following four games, HSV was top of the table. Then they lost at home 5-0 to SSV Jahn Regensburg , which meant the highest home defeat in the club's history to date (also 5-0 to FC Bayern Munich in 1974, to AS Saint-Étienne in 1980 and again to FC Bayern Munich in 2014 ). Only one more win and three goalless draws followed from the following four games, including in the city derby against FC St. Pauli . On October 23, 2018, the club separated from Titz and replaced him with Hannes Wolf - in 5th place in the table, two points behind the leaders . The reason given by the sports director Ralf Becker was that they had come to the conclusion that they had not taken the desired development and that they therefore saw an increased risk of missing the season's goals.

Red and white food

For the season 2019/20 Titz took over the Regional team of Rot-Weiss Essen , succeeding Karsten Neitzel , who after the 8th place in the preseason had been relieved of his duties. Titz received a contract that runs until June 30, 2021. Essen ended the season, the cancellation of which has yet to be officially confirmed by the host, as third in the table and thus missed the goal of participating in the third division promotion games aimed at by the club's management . As a result, the contract, which was still valid for one year, was terminated at the end of the season.

Success as a trainer

Others

Titz is a trained administrative clerk and a state-certified business economist . He is the owner of the service company Coaching Zone - portal for training theory and game culture , which was founded by Thomas Dooley under the name Dooley Soccer University and offers, among other things, individual training. Lewis Holtby and Christoph Moritz were among the customers . Together with Dooley, Titz published several specialist books.
